I don't quite agree with the "Every Japanese Sword Is a Katana" entry descriptions for Ichigo's swords. The description of his shikai, being that it is based on a Kyber Knife, actually bears little reseblance.

According to the other wiki, the Pesh-kabz appears to be a small, heavily-curved blade, meant for piercing and sundering armors. Ichigo's shikai, however, appears similar to a cleaver-type knife, and in fact, daggers often used in feudal-era Japan. (Albeit larger; see the picture in the Heian to Muromachi era portion of the entry.)

Also, "daito" as a term is just a catch-all for long-bladed swords. The specific one closely resembling Ichigo's bankai would likely be the uchigatana, with the much shallower curve to the blade.

(EDIT: I actually take issue with most of the entries there. For example, Ikkaku's weapon is nothing like a kwan dao at all, as the blade is far too small and not properly designed. It's just a spear that happens to be a three-section-staff as well.)

Any thoughts on the matter?

Agreed. I don't think the trope is in effect for Bleach at all. The only 'generic' approach Bleach takes to its weapons is regarding the term 'Zanpakutou', and the reason for that has absolutely nothing to do with this trope.

I'd say scrub the entry entirely. It looks like a case of Square Peg Round Trope to me. Also, the example begins with 'Somewhat averted'. Tropes cannot be 'somewhat' averted/played straight/subverted/etc. It makes it sound from the outset like the example is arguable - and Examples Are Not Arguable.

I agree. If it were being kept around at all, I'd change it to just say, "Played straight with the basic Zanpakutou which all start out as generic katanas, but quickly averted by the swords changing forms (often to not be swords at all) as they gain power."
