** Ruby is honest, kind, insecure and brash while Weiss is devious, sarcastic, confident and level-headed. Ruby has short hair, a gothic-inspired outfit and a red, black and silver colour scheme. Weiss has long hair, a princess-inspired outfit and a white, blue and red colour scheme. Ruby's fighting style involves creative, explosive charging and slashing while Weiss is a precise, calculated fencer and Dust user. Ruby comes from a close-knit, nurturing family while Weiss comes from a family implied to be tense, distant and adversarial. Ruby tends to charge ahead into combat situations alone, whereas Weiss places importance on teamwork and communication.
** To Blake: Ruby is a young, innocent idealist who just wants to help people and believes they can make a difference, and Blake is an older, jaded cynic who wanted to change the world for the better, but whose hopes of doing so were shot down long ago. This is illustrated through the concept of fairytales; Ruby describes how reading about heroes in fairytales inspired her to become one too, and Blake remarks that the real world isn't like a fairytale.

* {{Foil}}: [under Blake] To Weiss in respect to their backgrounds, they are nigh opposites. Blake is a faunus who was raised into the White Fang and grew up in harsh conditions. Weiss comes from a high-class background; her family owns one of the largest dust companies in the world, and because of their exploitation of faunus, they are at war with the White Fang. While they both grew disillusioned with the methods of an older male figure in their life and became huntresses, Blake did it to escape from the White Fang while Weiss did it to restore her family's honour. The conflict between the Schnee family and the White Fang is represented in their white vs. black color schemes, with the former being the proper members of society and the latter being the criminal outcasts, as well as the point that the situation is not metaphorically black-and-white. Both groups have also become corrupted in recent years from what they used to be.

** Yang is to Blake what Weiss is to Ruby. Where Yang is loud, boisterous, sociable, outgoing and usually (but not always) carefree, Blake is usually quiet, aloof, distant, stoic and stressed. Yang became a huntress to seek thrills and personal adventure, while Blake wants to eliminate evil from the world in all its forms. Even extends to their Semblances and how they fight: Yang's semblance is based on taking her opponents' attacks head-on and turning her pain into strength, while Blake's involves the summoning of an expendable substitute to take the hit while she evades it. Despite a rocky start, these differences don't stop the two from bonding during initiation, especially in Burning the Candle, when Yang reveals how alike they really are and convinces Blake to drop her obsession after a heart to heart talk.
** She and Mercury Black have similar weapons and a certain fun loving personality. Mercury focuses more on kicks and is fairly calm in battle, while Yang primarily uses punches and taps into serious rage the longer a fight goes on. Additionally, both Mercury and Blake have a color-black motif, contrasting Yang's yellow (more straightforwardly, Yang is associated with gold, while Mercury is associated with silver). [[spoiler:Mercury had to have his legs replaced due to critical damage in his fight with his father. Yang has now lost a limb and will very likely be getting a bionic arm to contrast his mechanical legs.]]
