Having just read Carol Clerk\'s 600 page brick \'\'The Saga of Hawkwind\'\', it\'s amazing how a group founded on hippy collective principles such as peace and love and not getting possessive about the bread, man, should have foundered into a sea of seething mutual hatreds, fist-fights, and suspicions that one or two people who didn\'t do nearly as many drugs as the rest managed to corner 80% of the money - or at least the left-overs after various managements, promotion agencies and record companies trousered the rest... Ms Clerk\'s magnum opus reads like a manual for ripping off a bunch of naive un-clued-up hippie stoner musicians, at every conceivable level and every conceivable way, once serious money starts to come in...
