Although there is one instance to the contrary, there were several scenes that strongly implied that he had lack of sexual interest in his wife because he was gay and she knew it, and the narrator more or less confirms this once (I think it\'s a comment to the effect of pretending to be in a relationship but not fooling anyone).

It does kind of depend on the episode. In some, Tobias just looks really clueless, whereas in others, the show does seem to go with the \\\"deeply closeted\\\" explanation. IIRC, the latter came up more later in the series.
