It\\\'s one of the ingredients for \\\"Cure Disease\\\" and since some strains of Lycantropy, (like the ones from Daggerfall, and there\\\'s other references to Daggerfall-type Lycanthropy in the game like the re-appearance of Glenmoril witches and their ties to the cure) are communicable as a disease, them having liberal caches of the potion and its ingredients make sense.

Never found any Vampire Dust on their corpses and I am on my third playthrough with the Companions. Also they never use the vampire health drain ability (which Vampires often make liberal use of). Lastly, carrying vampire dust doesn\'t make one a vampire necessarily (Case and point, the player).
