It’s been awhile since a played but I’m pretty sure Murder basically states that Charname is Abdel, so regardless of continuity snarl or cutting off branches, we have no reason to actually doubt they are the same person(or at least the canon avatar of the games).

Further if we want to argue canon, citing Heroes 5e may not be the best idea on account of being from DM guild, while Murder seems to be from Wizards themselves. If anything this means Heroes has questionable continuity at best.
