Doesn't have a page yet but could it be The Math Factory?
During my elementary school days, I recall watching a show on PBS starring a petit brunette woman (who was possibly some form of math teacher). In each episode, she would be presented with some kind of problem (involving mathematics) which she couldn't figure out. To ease her mind and hopefully get some assistance, she would go through some kind of magical door where she would come out on the other side in some strange land where she would meet a variety of strange characters who would also be facing some problem that she would assist in solving and, in doing so, would also solve her own problem back home. The only further information I can give beyond this is that, in two episodes, she enters a land and meets two bickering twins named Alice Area and Paula Perimeter. Also, I believe the name of the show could have been "The Numbers Game" or something similar.
