Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I'd go for a few days.

What discussion are you referring to? The discussion pages on work pages? These are rarely used and people usually don't realize there is a new post (unless you have the work page or trope page on your watchlist).
It's better to post in the forums, for example in Is this an example? or some cleanup projects.
An example was removed , contesting removal and seeing if valid to be readded. Taking to discussion as per normal. Checking to see what to do if no input on discussion page on what duration waiting before escalation.
Taking to discussion pages is often futile because that page is likely to be seen only by editors of the page (perhaps only those two tropers who disagree).
We have a dedicated thread for this particular thing that is frequented by more people. See Is this an example?
In general, regardless of where you intend to have the discussion, I would make a note of where you're taking it either as an edit reason to a null edit, or a PM.
If an edit has been removed. And you want to question the removal to see if should be put back you take it to discussion. If there is no follow up or input in discussion how long before you take it to ATT? A few days or a week?
