If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.
There's a short story — I think it's a folk tale or something — about a father coming home to see the cradle upside-down and his huge dog's mouth all bloody. The father assumes the dog mauled the baby, so he draws his sword and kills the dog. Then the father hears the baby crying, follows the sound and discovers the baby is okay and there's the corpse of an intruding (carnivorous and/or venomous) animal bearing the dog's bite marks.
