This one's been weirding me out for years now. I had my first exposure to Star Wars at age 6, in 1999 or 2000, watching Return of the Jedi. I was pretty freaked-out by a lot of it, but the one scene that left a particular impact was the Sarlaac pit - that was the beginning of a lifelong fear of going off diving boards. Something I thought I remembered fairly strongly was that, before Luke's turn, a woman and a young boy were forced to jump into the Sarlaac pit (and were not rescued). They both went very calmly, just striding forward to their dooms, and I can easily recall the feeling of horror and revulsion I got watching that. In my mind's eye, the woman is dressed just like Queen Amidala in her iconic red outfit, and the boy looked a bit like Anakin Skywalker in Episode 1.
I genuinely believed this was a scene in the movie until I rewatched Rot J (and watched the other episodes for the first time) at age 14. Since then, I've been wondering where this imaginary scene came from. It makes me think of the Mandela effect, but I'm not a believer in any of that parallel timeline stuff, so I'm more likely to believe that I somehow conflated the scenes of Jabba's guards and Boba Fett falling into the Sarlaac pit (plus possibly Oola being fed to the Rancor) with promotional images + clips I might have seen from The Phantom Menace, which came out around that time. Given how much the scene scared me, it could even have been a nightmare that got misremembered as real life. Still, the memory is so specific that I'm wondering if there's a similar scene in a different movie or TV show that I mixed up with Return of the Jedi. Can anyone think of any scene like this in anything, or did traumatized 6-year-old me just make it all up?
EDIT: It just occurred to me that my parents also watched a lot of Star Trek when I was young, and I could very easily have gotten the two confused. Can anyone think of a Star Trek episode wehre something like this happens?
