Hostage for MacGuffin?

Edit: No, I think you're talking about Friend-or-Idol Decision.

Thanks, Friend-or-Idol Decision seems right. Does it cover scenarios where the quested-for object is some sort of cure either for themselves or a loved one and they use it on the friend instead of who it was originally meant for?

Sometimes, sure. However, the cure could be them trying to bring back someone from the dead; Using it on the friend could be them realizing that they have moved on

For that second one, see also Greater Need Than Mine, Someone Has to Die, More Expendable Than You, More Hero than Thou, and Heroic Sacrifice for a few different scenarios where this sort of decision gets made.
