Is all this discussed in-universe, or is it that you or the audience considers the "point" to be nonsense?

Example: Ghetsis (and some of the Team Plasma members) in Pokémon Black and White.
They start off having a reasonable philosophy for doing what they do, showing intriguing Grey and Grey Morality, but in the end it turns out to be Black and White Morality as they're completely objectively evil, usually in a split second.
