Found this! It was My Kind Of Music by Ray Scott.
In spring 2006 I heard part of the (I assume official) country top 40 countdown while on vacation. One of the first few songs(likely something that didn't peak much higher) was something I never heard again. I feel like the verses were almost talking. Male singer. Was about a conversation with a girl who wasn't into country music. In the part I remember, the narrator asked the girl if she had ever heard of Alan Jackson, she said something like "Didn't he sing Where Were You?", and he says something about him being a legend or classic, and she says "Really? I thought he was new." This has been driving me crazy for years, but hopefully won't be that hard to find. Thanks.
