I've been trying for years to find the same episode. I was convinced it was an episode of Monsters, but I've read through the synopses of all the episodes, and nothing comes anywhere close. No episodes of Tales from the Darkside, Tales from the Crypt, or Freddy's Nightmares seem to fit, either.
I assume it was something syndicated that aired on my local Fox affiliate. (I didn't have cable growing up.) This probably rules out Ray Bradbury Theater. I suppose the Twilight Zone reboot is a possiblity, though I feel like its being a Twilight Zone episode would have stuck out in my memory.
I'll keep looking. If I ever find it, I'll report back.
Edited by smurfthumperI continue to have no luck figuring this out, but maybe a bump will call it to the attention of others.
I can add that I watched it sometime between '88 and '90, though it was most likely something in syndication, so it could have been made several years before that.
Edited by smurfthumperWas it the episode of the 1980s Twilight Zone called “Monsters”
That's very possible. It's ticking some of the boxes for me, based solely on the synopsis. I'll give it a watch soon. Thanks for the lead!

I think it was an ( anthology) TV show from the 1980s. All I remember is a boy whose parents make him go to bed every night and stay asleep all night and make sure not to get up. Then one night he stays up really late and watches his parents turn into grotesque monsters and finds out that all adults turn into monsters late at night and then turn back into regular people in the morning
