I'm searching for a children's picture book that would have been around in the 80s/90s (or before that). It involved two young children, the boy with a blue teddy bear and the girl with a pink one, and as far as I can recall, the story involved the two of them squabbling as they walked home with their parents, using their bears as mouthpieces.
The striking thing was the illustrations, as each page involved a giant sculpture of a hand being carried through the streets: each one was in a different position, and none of them had anything whatsoever to do with the actual story. They were just a very large Funny Background Event. (I recall one sculpture being a pointing hand, and people on the street turning to see what it might be pointing at).
In terms of style, it very much reminded me of Tony Ross, but I've looked through his body of work and nothing is popping out at me. It could be the book is out of print, it could be it's not Tony Ross at all.
