Sounds a bit like Fatal Attraction although there it's a bunny rabbit in the pot and the woman isn't in the kitchen and it's his wife that lifts the pot lid. Fatal Instinct has a similar scene where it is the guy lifting the pot and the girl does appear to be attacking at first, but it's then revealed that she has cabbage brewing in the pot.
A film from the nineties I think. A guy is stalked by a woman for the majority of the film, after meeting his girlfriend he returns home and discovers a pot boiling. He opens the lid to find his girlfriends head and is immediately ambushed by the stalker.
