Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I gave my two cents back at the Analysis thread, but to repeat, it should be cut. It has little to do with Flynning (the art of making fencing look cinematic) and more of a discussion on why we can't have real swordfights on screen (tldr, it's dangerous and doesn't look cool).
Also some slams against audiences for not properly appreciating "Historical European Martial Arts".
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meJust took a look at this. Agreed, this doesn't have much of anything to do with the trope. I support cutting it.
I also support cutting it. It seems better served on an analysis page for HEMA if anywhere (although, do UN pages get Analysis spaces?)
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floors^ They shouldn't, it's venturing way too far off of the site's core mission.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose me^ Ah, got it. Yeah, then just taking an axe to it is the best course of action.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsI do think noting the reasons behind it (i.e. that it's dangerous) should be on the page, but I don't think we need to be terribly wordy about it. Something about how the trend started in live theater and sticks around because of safety issues with the actors ought to be sufficient. I also do think it should be noted — but again, briefly — that stage combat has more or less become an art form in and of itself, because it has and deserves the credit. But these notes combined should take less than a paragraph.
I serve at the pleasure of President Pritchart.^That's essentially what I'd be moving over from the cut material from the main page. You can read it here (some of the text in red I'd be porting over with some minor edits)
Edited by amathieu13^ Ah. Took a look and it looks great to me :)
I serve at the pleasure of President Pritchart.ok will edit the page and cite this thread in the edit reason
I asked about this page in the Analysis namespace thread a few weeks back but there were conflicting opinions leaving it inconclusive so I'm bringing it here.
Analysis.Flynning is very long. The bulk of it is an essay by a pro fight choreographer about why we don't see more "Historical European Martial Arts" in media. The problem is however that this discussion isn't really about Flynning. At best, this is an essay about why we don't see one form of classic martial arts vs other forms of martial arts in media, and not about how flynning / fake sword fighting is used and why.
I ask because I recently cut (with ATT permission) a lot from the main page that I think would be better off on the analysis page, but I don't want to add even more to an overly long page.
full disclosure, someone brought up this analysis page before, however, that was focused less on the content and more on the copying and pasting from an offsite source.
