Bumping because I just ran across this and it sounds interesting.
Bumping for the same reason. But i was wondering, was there a scene when MC's hand shrunk into his sleeve after getting exposed to the light? And a kid with four hands, two of which were always in front of his face like Home Alone poster? (And then his head was replaced with a small pumpkin?)
Hoping to fall asleep before falling apartThis is "The Hole" (2009). The man's notebooks are full of black scribbles. Rio, what you're describing doesn't sound like the same movie.

I remember one striking scene from a film which I think had kids/teens as the main characters, and they're related. It's a fantasy film wherein the "villains" (which may or may not be creatures) are "allergic" to light. They can't go near it.
So, these kids visit an old man to get an info dump. Now, this man sits in a GIANT ROOM filled to the brink with lamps of all kind - oil lamps, candles, everything. He's also drawn the villains (which I'm assuming are some creepy little creatures in the vein of Gremlins or Don't Be Afraid of the Dark", but can't actually remember as such) and gives our main characters a method to fight back. When the MC's leave, the lights go out, the creatures attack and the old man dies.
Anyone remember which movie this is?
