whelp.

im in high rank now. zorah magdoras is not a great fight. but its armour sets are A++

also i gave the kirin quest a whirl.

big, big, big difficulty spike. im not sure why thats a low rank quest but i decided to just come back later.

[up]I'm reminded of the one quest that finally convinced me to start playing multiplayer: an event quest from 4 Ultimate that had you fighting a Kirin and an Oroshi Kirin at the same time...and both are supersized.

Kirin in general is way, way harder than most of his fellows- Being nothing but ranged attacks does that, after all, especially given how little telegraphing his attacks have and how high above the average weapon his weak point is.

[up]Minor nitpick, but Kirin isn't all ranged attacks; it does sometimes kick you in the face or charge at you.

imo Kirin isn't all that hard once you're properly equipped to actually deal with it. its ranged attacks are certainly annoying, but the kirin is vulnerable during most of them and the kirin doesn't have that much HP.

kirin certainly isn't an easy fight, and definitely isn't always a fun one, but I think Kirin falls off hard compared to other endgame monsters as you progress.

and this applies to every game kirin has been in, btw. not just world.

I mean, I'm not saying it's the worst or most shenanigan heavy monster there is. But it's still tedious to deal with. And I certainly wouldn't have complained if the first tempered elder dragon was something that was a bit easier to hit the weak points of.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with that fight was that no one seemed to want to bring their rain coat. Suboptimized teammates will kill you every time.

Kirin's acutally one of the easier elder dragons. It's just that he cheats by appearing much earlier than other dragons of the same rank. He's the only one to appear in low rank, his high rank counterpart appear much earlier than any other elder, and You fight tempered kirin immédiatement after the regular elders. Of course tempered kirin appear togh compared To non tempered elders.

He's also a pushover in 4u.

The only time kirin is legit harder than other elders on une same level is in investigations where they ramp up his damage to the point of one hit kill. But you don't need to be ranged to be cheap as fuck when you have one hit kills.

I do agree he's tedious tho, although he's also one of the most easily trivialized. Anti stun 3, thunder mantle and life up jexels basically removes any threat to the fight, almost to the point of Val hazaak.

So I’ve been learning how to Horn.

And for whatever reason, the song I most associate with HH gameplay is... So What, by Pink.

So SO WHAT!? I’m still a rock star! I’ve got my rock moves! And I don’t neeeeed yooooouu~

Kirin is a lot harder to deal with in World than in previous games. I didn't have nearly as much trouble with it in 4U or Generations.

Been doing the same in World lately.

It's got a nasty learning curve due to just how often and how long you need to recover from everything. I've had to quit the bow for the time being just so that I can force myself to get used to it.

So just to be silly (and because LIIIIISTS), I thought I’d compile fitting theme music for the different weapons in Monster Hunter.

I’ve got a definite pick for Hunting Horn, totally not biased as a hopeful Hunting Horn main, nope.

On a more gameplay-related note... I really wish I could get the skills I needed without having sub-500 defense. The highest base defense I’ve been able to muster is 525, and that only gives me Evasion +2, Evade Extender, and Crit Eye +1.

So because I hate myself, I've decided to try learning how to Longsword in world.

I think I've got a handle on most of it, except for the timing on foresight slash- I can't seem to time it reliably, which either wastes it or earns me a monster to the face.

All is takes is practice, really. It took me some time to finally get used to it, but give it some time and you'll be taking it into account to raise your gauge and keep your combos going.

Longsword is actually one of the easier weapons to get used to. Charge Blade on the other hand, that one took me a bit to relearn for World.

Speaking of the Charge Blade, the monster that made me try it out was the Dalamadur. I was trying to take it on solo, and I ran out of time when I first took it on with an Insect Glaive. So I tried the Charge Blade, and while it still took a while, I managed to score my first solo Dalamadur kill.

I actually started on World trying to Charge Blade. Then I had too much trouble, and cheesed my way from Anjanath to Nerg with the Bow instead, and now I'm waffling between the Switch Axe and Longsword. Both feel good, but the Longsword feels cinematic.

How do I use the One-Shot Binder in Generations? I’ve tried using it before, but it gets wasted because even though I know damn well I hit Nakarkos or Amatsu, absolutely nothing happens. I’ve seen other people use it just fine, though.

A tournament for World just finished up at the Tokyo Game Show. We might get news for the game after the award ceremony.

So far Arch tempered Zorah Magdaros and Lunastra were confirmed. Also there will be a new Horizon Dawn quest with an extra large and small arch tempered Deviljho for gamma and layered versions of her armor.

How do you do tournaments in Monster Hunter? Do you have teams compete for the best time or something?

Hashil Since: Aug, 2010
#4999: Sep 22nd 2018 at 8:07:38 PM

Yep.

Two hunters go in with what I think are preset loadouts per weapon and compete to see who can kill a monster the fastest. In this case it was lunastra, and Japan's team managed to put up a time of like 2:26 to take her down.

arch tempered zorah magadros ? How does that even work ? what's the point ? aside from updating his gear to endgame, but that's what perfecting armors if for... Yeah no I don't see the point.
