Is it possible to successfully go up against the end bosses of MH Gen as a melee-focused Prowler?

Note I said “possible,” not “optimal.” Boomerangs are what everyone except Gaijin Hunter expects you to use.

In monster hunter generations Prowlers are a relatively mediocre weapon type. Boomerang prowlers can be on-par with normal weapons, but melee prowlers are pretty universally bad. That said it is possible.

It's a completely different story for Generations Ultimate. Prowlers got nerfed hard, and even at max level they only do High Rank damage even in G Rank. As such they're literally the worst weapon type in the game, and Boomerang prowlers struggle to catch up with any weapon. I'd wager it is quite literally impossible to go through Generations Ultimate as a Melee prowler because you won't be able to do enough damage in the time you're given. Hell, it might be impossible with boomerang prowlers.

I keep hearing about this G-Rank. I assume it's kind of like the jump from Low Rank to High Rank mechanically?

Yes, however it is important to note that the difficulty gap between High Rank and G Rank is much wider than Low Rank to High Rank. The concept largely stays the same, though. Monsters get smarter and hit harder. That said unlike High Rank there are many cases where you're very much expected to be using armor sets with a wide array of skills now made available to you, whereas with High Rank you can mostly get away with wearing Low Rank/No armor.

Am I right in thinking that Ukanlos weapons are a trap as big as the monster himself?

Yes. There are significantly better ice weapons available to you. I think there are some sets that utilize the negative affinity? But for the most part you're best off making literally any other weapon since the Ukanlos weapons have poor sharpness too.

Which weapon type you use will change which weapon you should use instead. SNS and DB benefit from weapons with higher elemental, while most other weapons benefit from weapons with similar raw and no element.

So it was pointless fighting him. Blast it.

I wouldn't say that! I always think it's a good idea to fight every monster in the game and find out what works for you, rather than worrying about what's "optimal".

that said you're in for a really bad time if you decide to stick with melee prowlers for generations ultimate. a really really bad time. plus sometimes learning what's effective helps you have fun in the long run too.

but yeah ukanlos is kind of a crappy solo fight. with 3 or 4 people he's a blast because his fight gets kinda ridiculous, and it doesn't take too long with that many hunters.

Also, I really wish Kut-Ku weapons were useful, they’re so cute. I especially love his Hunting Horn. Even if I never use it, I just wanted to have it because... come on, it’s a Kut-Ku that sings for you!

Finally crafted the Soulseer armor thanks to a nice group of people doing Soulseer Mizutsune hunts. Hopefully I won't be using as many potions during the other G3 hunts.

Ukanlos weapons CAN have a niche utility as they still have excellent raw, defense bonus and can be made into having decent sharpness. I remember having a perfected Ukanlos GS back in 4U because the defense bonus it provided was pretty critical to my survival against critical brachydios, and with skills that reduces sharpness loss, it was the objective better choice.

If you're using dual blades or something that relies very heavily on sharpness or elemental, though, you're indeed screwed.

What’s the best Dual Blades for each element in Generations? (Not Ultimate)

Assuming anybody is as crazy about lists as I am, perhaps the same could be done for other weapon classes? Obvs not hammer or GS, though.

Also, how good are the Deviant weapons other than Hellblade, Grimclaw and Silverwind (everybody’s favorites)?

Just beat the Valstrax for the first time. Great dragon, great music, great fight.

I am having a devil of a time getting the last fang I need from Vaal. It's not even supposed to be rare.

[up][up][up] Dreadqueen weapons are good for poison if you'd be interested in that.

[up][up] Generation IV has its good share of epic fights with epic music. Valstrax is right there with Shagaru Magala in my opinion.

I haven't forged any Valstrax weapons yet, but those are some of the oddest things I've seen. They only have two levels of sharpness: white and red.

Been doing more Soulseer Mizutsune quests to try forging some Soulseer weapons, but then I found out I need Mizutsune Shards...which Soulseer Mizutsunes do not seem to drop. Whelp, looks like it's back to G-rank Mizutsune for me.

Soloed Arch Tempered Kushala. I'm kind of glad none of the Gamma Kushala gear looks all that appealing, since I can just use those tickets for the new layered armor without a lot of thought.

I'm actually not seeing what they did to make him any tougher other than the typical better stats and more health paradigm the others have by default.

You joke, but that's kind of what I figured, too. Just less comprehensive than G Rank sounds, since the standard monsters aren't part of it.

So one of my favorite Let’s Play channels, RageGamingVideos, has released a ton of Monster Hunter content.

Would anybody be willing to make a work page for either Rage’s channel or his Monster Hunter Pro and Noob series? I don’t know how to write a proper summary or main page for a work... mainly, I was thinking about it because he leaves me in stitches most of the time, and I was like “This guy needs a Funny Moments page.”

Got to G4 in Generations Ultimate and just completed the key quest with Rajang. Geez, Rajang's a piece of work in G rank.

Just got to complete a few more quests before Ahtal-Ka.

Speaking of RageGaming, I love this song. I actually prefer it to the original.

And being the kind of dude I am, I wondered if I could make another version of Dumb Ways to Cart for Generations/GenUlt. Think you guys want to try your hand at writing verses for it? I’ve got a (probably terrible) verse to start things off.

Ahem... [starts the music]

Starting the Brachy fight with a bang
Socked into the ice age by Mad Rajang
Frozen in place by a Garuga’s howl
Slept and confused by a jester owl

And Ahtal-Ka is down! I took her on solo first, and it took around 40-ish minutes and a lot of potions, since I'm not that good a player. Still, it was a very fun fight and Ahtal-Ka is a fantastically-designed monster. I hope to see her again in a future game, even if chances are slim or next to none.

Ahtal-Ka has one of my favorite concepts in the whole series, being the cherry on the top of the overall great monster designs brought in Gen VI.

IIRC, back in the day, they used to say that designing more Neopterons as large monsters was challenging. Then I see this and think we have come a long way.

I know I'm a little late to this, but to the person asking if fighting Ukanlos is a waste of time, I'd say no. Monster parts can also be used to forge decorations; Ukanlos Shoveljaws, in particular, are used to forge Handicraft Jewel 3.

So depending on what skills you want, fighting Ukanlos could be very helpful.
