I wondered that a bit myself...whether or not Uzuki's fortunes are done at random, or based on your performance over the previous year.

Now that this is out of the way, I can go ahead and focus on beating Iris Noire...after I get some more Energy Drinks ready. Gotta get something other than this pumpkin head, too...

I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!

Episode 71: Crops and Rune Robbers

"Son of a..." Raguna begins to shout as he discovers that there was a New Mochi in his fridge this whole time. It's a distinct possibility that it could have been given to him while he was sleeping, but nobody other than Mist has ever actually been inside his house. He holds onto the Mochi and saves it for his planned journey back into the Snow Ruins.

For now, he goes back to making yardwork his top priority. Cave cabbages and turnips are "in" this year, as Raguna continues to collect his daily harvest from the Green Ruins. Eunice notices a tear in his clothing, so she sews it up for him, good as new.

Kross is back to work on his farm, and after Raguna leaves, he clears a large boulder from his field. Raguna decides to leave him alone with his work for now, and laugh all the way to the bath house as he counts up his gigantic haul for the day - 34,000 gold! But when he goes back to his house to mix up some potions, he seese the boulder blocking him from coming out, to which Kross apologizes.

Raguna wakes up early the next morning and preps himself for a rematch with Iris Noire. He stops only briefly from dodging Noire's magic assault to ponder why time seems to stop whenever he's caught up in an intense battle. After what seems like a hour or two of circling around and slashing at the strange devices in the room, Raguna emerges victorious. Mist and Candy come down to check on Raguna, but he's more worried about Noire, who collapsed after all the fighting.

Gelwein comes out, disappointed that Noire was beaten. He surmises that there was someone else with a more powerful Rune melody than Noire, but it doesn't matter to him, now that he has the "final ingredient" in his hands.

Raguna has another hallucination before he himself passes out:

"...the diagnostic results are in. As we thought, the reason behind the Rune dissipations was..."

"I see. A body that endlessly absorbs Runes since birth... Why did it fail...? Is it sinful for man to create life by his own hands...? But the child has not sinned... I should have been the one to be punished... If we do nothing, all the R Unes of the world will be absorbed by this child...and the world will perish. I must do something. Something..."

Candy, Kanno, Lara, and Iris Noire come to see him in his bedroom. He asks Noire what she was doing so deep down in the Snow Ruins with Gelwein. She says that there was an Iris who lived in Trampoli Long again who split into two people because she was so lonely. They were both singing the Spirit Melody at the same time, according to Kanno. Now that neither of the Irises are singing, Whale Island and Trampoli are supposedly safe, but Candy says it's not that simple. The Spirits are being called by a stronger force than even she can contend with. Gelwein kidnapped Mist in the confusion, sealing off the rune camber in the Show Ruins so that they couldn't go after her. Noire asks Raguna to take her to Iris Blanche so that they can work together to bring the Spirits back to Whale Island and possibly break the seal on that room.

The two Irises meet face to fast for the first time, happy to see each other. Iris Blanche couldn't believe that Gelwein would do something so dastardly to the runes, and promises to help her other self out.

The game sure does have a weird way of approaching storytelling. All the in-depth backstory stuff is relegated to mere text glimpses in the dream sequences, visiting character dialogue, or books in the library. I guess it's to show how isolated from the outer world Trampoli is, but I would have liked to understand things better.

An interesting point. I never really thought of things that way.

Anyways, I am still going to continue this, but since there's a new liveblog system, I'm going to move all of my previous entries over there, for old liveblogs seem to have a nasty habit of "disappearing".

Please leave all new comments about current or previous entries over there.
