Arilou speaks truth. Which is why when fighting siege weapon laden civs like the Huns Mongols and Celts, I tend to divide my army into at least five groups and I try to micro at least 60% of them while initiating a multi-prong attack.

My FF.net accountMongols have better siege tech than Huns.
They get a unique tech that increases speed by 30%, IIRC.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Hence my question in IRC yes, I forgot which among them had better siege tech.
My FF.net account@ Mapi: What do you use the other 5 number keys for, then?
Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?Scouts during midgame and early game. Conversely, different units (for instance, 1-5 = Huskarls, while 6-8 = Halberdiers).
My FF.net accountI typically use the Teutons or the Byzantines, so Huskarls don't give me much trouble. Heavy cavalry like Paladins and Cataphracts and infantry like the Teutonic Knights can really screw with them.
The Teutons are ridiculously strong late-game, so if an opponent is using them, I try to take them out ASAP.
My FF.net accountIt's a shame I have no way to play online. I tried a third-party fan server system, but I couldn't get it to work.
Has anyone else found success with something like that?
@ Mapi: Probably better than my own setup of having a unit type to each key, when you only want a few unit types.
I don't mind the Teutons, but I don't get as much use out of Teutonic Knights as some other civs' unique units. Too slow for me.
Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?Me and GMH have played a couple of games over Hamachi.
^ I model my number groups the way I do in Starcraft.

My FF.net accountScruffy: Yeah, Hamachi, it basically creates a new virtual connection on your computer, so it's separate from normal IP or LAN connections. Works great, though takes a bit of setting up (including allowing it in the Windows Firewall if applicable).
There's also GameRanger.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Huns are fairly nasty in sieges due to their tarkans. But they don't have that good siege-engines per se.
Koreans, btw. are just plain nasty.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntKoreans are fucking tanks.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.I was always a fan of the Chinese and, if we're playing All Techs, the Franks and Britons. Anyone whose unique unit will let me rain projectiles on the other guy's infantry the minute they step out of the fog of war.
I never liked war elephants, they're too vunerable to bombard towers...
Speaking of bombard towers, did anyone else come to fucking hate the bloody things after a while? For some reason, computer players seemed to love spamming them.
BTW: I've played AOEII for five years, but never once online. The minute I get a home internet connection, that will be one of my first priorities.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)Which is more user friendly? My comps generally don't play well with other services.
Anyway, I've heard that the Vikings are <ahem> the worst civ in land maps loltiers. Anyone wanna call bs?
The trick is: Don't ever let anyone reach Imperial.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Kinkajou speaks truth. Finish the game during the Castle Age at the latest because upgrading to the Elite version of your unique unit eats up a fuckton of resources, and it may not even be worth the upgrade (there are possibly better unique Castle upgrades to get depending on your civ).
My FF.net accountExcept if you're the Byzantines. You'll want to get to Imperial with them ASAP.

I tend to go for bombard cannons rather than trebuchets. Faster to set up and with some anti-infantry capabilities. And I am a big fan of the longbowmen.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.I used to just create a large mass of military units and use them all at the same time.
Then I realized that my siege units were killing my infantry. Lovely.
I loved gathering as many Chu Ko Nus as you could control at the same time (I think it was about 40) and have them wander through the battlefield functioning as a firing squad for any enemy units (except siege weapons, of course) that happened to come my way. Same thing with the longbows.
Onagers suck. Don't use them. Bombard cannons are better against buildings and scorpions are better against people, and neither of them will wipe out platoons of your own guys.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)I tend to only build Trebuchets for taking down castles; not much else. I make a handful of onagers for dealing with infantry, but only when I can really afford it. I rarely use scorpions.
Yep. Though you'll want artillery for the huskarls.
