I definitely like the My Castle UI better. Combine that with the characters commenting on the specific point in the story and I think it would be the best of both worlds. The mini-games I can take or leave. Actually, I'd prefer fishing not come back the way it is, and for the Green House to not involve Calculus.

I liked the fishing minigame. As far as fishing minigames go, it's simple enough. I just wished that Goddess Messengers didn't require that much RNG to catch, even if I think I get the rationale behind such a decision.

I recently promoted Virion in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE into an Assassin. Draug and Navarre are my only unpromoted units.

I'll double-check and see if I'm missing any requests before I move on to Chapter 5. Hopefully I'll start seeing Mirages drop 5-Star Prestiges at that point.

Just shove all the worthwhile Monastery content into something the size of My Castle. And no minigames that eat up an hour of time if you want to optimize the run.

To be clear, I think making a smaller hub could work, but if we stick with 3D environments, I’m not sure we’d necessarily have enough space to both fit all of our units in as well as various NP Cs, and that was something I DID like about Three Houses. And really, I just enjoy being able to do thinks other than battles to shake things up.

My problem with how big the monastery is is that there isn't really enough stuff in it to merit the size. I'm not opposed to mini-games—in fact I think that'd probably be the best way to easily fill the space. What annoys me is that fishing is really boring, but has high incentive to do a ton of it for prof EXP, and the Calculus involved in the Green House growing makes getting stuff you want a super chore. Compare this to Heroes, where you plant seeds for X and it gives you a yield for X.

Dining is fine. Gifts are fine. Tea time is... kinda weird because of the nonsensical final questions, but mostly fine. Sauna is pretty weird, at least semi-entertaining. Faculty training not only makes sense, but is advantageous. Really, add more stuff that's quick and snappy like all of these (well, other than tea time, though even that is substantially faster than fishing's investment for payout ratio).

I’ll confess that I didn’t know you needed complicated math for the Greenhouse? I mostly just planted whatever I thought I needed more of and picked it up the next month.

I do agree that stuff should either be short or fun, no contention there. My proposal was more based on the idea that if you’re fighting a war, it’d be interesting if you dealt with stuff related to that other than the actual fighting.

Yeah, it uses a really weird formula. I think Serenes has it listed, but it's basically a non-linear thing that's based on the collective types of seeds, making the yield vary wildly for seemingly no reason. To the point where sometimes it's actually better to use less than max seeds. It's annoying enough that I have a combination cheat sheet for growing specific things.

I don't like the sauna. Maybe I just don't understand the underlaying mechanisms but it feels like too much uncontrollable RNG. Sometimes Byleth just heats up way faster or slower than the other person and makes it impossible to get them both cozy, wasting your activity point.

That's why I always save before I use the Sauna. It wouldn't be the worst type of save-scumming I've done in video games. *Glances over at Shin Megami Tensei IV*.

It's pretty random, yeah. I'm generally okay with the overheating if for no other reason than that I can make jokes about Leonie getting too hot and bothered thinking about Jeralt.

Leonie's body heat when thinking about Jeralt is what powers the sauna. No firewood needed.

@Kuroi:

My problem with how big the monastery is is that there isn't really enough stuff in it to merit the size.

That's because a lot of features - and I mean a lot - were planned to be in it before KT began trimming the fat, so when that happened, Garreg Mach's huge size kind of lost its purpose as a result.

If you ask me, I don't believe it's a coincidence the Empire/Kingdom/Alliance camps from Three Hopes are looking far smaller by comparison.

I might have asked this before, but why are tier lists for FE 4 based primarily on whether a unit is mounted?

I know mounted units can go further, but there are few times where there's a time limit so strict that you have to use mounted units to succeed. And in my experience, fighting an enemy group without my entire army present was a form of suicide.

[up]That's the problem, there are side objective that requires speed. Combine with the massive map size, it mean that weak Cavaliers like Midir and Naoish is better than Ayra or Jamke because of the fact that they have horses and get to the action far quicker. The fact that Sigurd starts as a Knight Lord mean you can go aggressive, since Sigurd need to capture castles, anyway.

Also, the way Canto work means that mounted units is so much better than foot units because they are far more adaptable, which is also a problem plaguing Path of Radiance.

It's why most people pair Lewyn and Tailtiu, because of the fact that Arthur with Forseti will get a horse, even if he doesn't start with one.

I remember Alec and Naoish being useless in battle. In fact, that was the case every time I played the game. Though they are, admittedly, good at preventing villages from being destroyed.

Tellius did at least put some token effort into making Canto less powerful with the lower cavalry stat caps (and often, poor bases... looking at you, Fiona and RD!Astrid). Then 3H said, "Ah, hell, whatever." and let Canto be very broken again (even if there is some terrain that tries to hinder cavalry, there is nearly zero effort to stop fliers).

FE4 is the definition of a Horse Emblem. Horses just have higher reach and flexibility than foot units. Even if there weren't time-sensitive objectives, waiting for foot units to catch up would make the game even more agonizingly slow than it already is.

[up]Only Radiant Dawn makes an effort to nerf mount units with the ledges and indoor penalties.

Isn't it agreed that moving at a faster-than-average pace is the safest strategy in Fire Emblem?

It usually depends on your unit's strength and enemy composition.

BTW, I am playing Revelation with female-only. I am currently at the two-part mid-chapter. On that note, I am so annoyed that Kagero didn't hit Level 20 after defeating the illusion boss, she's like one more hit before she could level.

More Move isn't just about fast versus slow either, though. I tend to play slow-to-medium pace and it's more about adaptability for me. Higher Move means they can get to places to cover other allies in case of unfortunate EP misses or needing additional firepower against that set of reinforcements that just popped up.

Mind, if you're looking for just the absolute safest way to play, then you build a juggernaut and send them off to murder crap without the risk of the squishies getting chased (or, for 3H, since it's more PP based, build a Canto ball of nukers that murder anything that approach them, then rally back to the others).

Flying gives a unit incredible mobility in exchange for a very pronounced weakness. Pegasus knights in many games can often be taken out by a single hit from bows, and even Wyvern knights can go down quickly.

Mounted units, meanwhile, have mobility that's often only a little worse than flying units but no real weaknesses in most games. They're never weak to a whole class of weapons the way fliers are. There are specific anti-cavalry weapons, but they're often pretty rare.

And Three Houses made both even better, since now they can just decide to be an infantry unit if they're in a situation where being a flying/mounted unit would be inconvenient.
