This is a thread for people who will not be or have not been on the site for a while, whether due to real life or to resist an internet addiction, the latter of which is encouraged within reason. Also, talk about the benefits/whatever of taking a day or a weekend off, or things to do when not online. TV Tropes ruining your life is nothing to be proud of.
Generally, expect the following from this thread:
- People announcing their departure or return.
- Moderators announcing a significant forum ban — not trolls or vandals, but someone people will notice and miss.
- Inquiries about an absent troper.
- Responses to inquiries about an absent troper.

Then start with yourself. If you expect anyone to change, you can't wait for others to do it. I personally thought the guy was being horribly racist, but I saw how the mods looked at it, and it clearly wasn't some evil place of evil, and I tried to get others do to the same, but it didn't work. —shrugs— Whatcha gonna do?
And in the end, Eddie came to a compromise, which I thought was good. It really goes on for too long because of the fact that you have multiple people who actually can't change anything debating, so it goes into a swirl until a mod says "well, this is what we're gonna do"

Read my stories!I think part of it is that it's unclear what the site even is supposed to be. It sort of flip-flops between trying to be some casual fun site and pretending to be impartial and academic.
to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at theeWell, officially, the right side of the forum is supposed to be casual, while the left side is lolsrs Serious Business serious. It varies though, obviously.

Read my stories!See, what I gathered from that thread (the Appeal to Moderation thread) was that Ramidel was obviously being sarcastic and if you couldn't detect this obvious sarcasm you were just being a bit of a thickie.

I saw it as him being obviously serious to some, obviously sarcastic to others, and to others, serious until admitted to be sarcastic.
None of these sides are inherently wrong.

Read my stories!Sounded more like Ram backpedaling to me.

to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at theeOr that, backpedaling. That was another thing some people thought. So you basically had 4 different conclusions you could come to.
Read my stories! That's not what I meant. I didn't think he was being sarcastic, because I didn't think there was anything about his posts to suggest that this was the case.
What I meant was that the people in that thread who more or less said, "He was clearly being sarcastic; stop being so sensitive," did so in what struck me as a very dismissive way.

Got it, chummer.
oh, and also
Cute <— George Santayana says hi.
"My life is my own" | If you want to contact me privately, please ask first on the forum. The administration added a rule about straw dogs, an official recognition that we don't like genocide advocacy, and gave the controversial troper a stern warning. To me, it looks like the matter was resolved.
You're calling people who agreed with the administration "sycophants?" If you stop and think about it, you might come to the conclusion that it's possible that some people actually agree with the administration on a decision you didn't like.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I'm thinking about giving this place a month break maybe longer. It's a real time waster for me and too addictive.
I was wondering why frisbees got bigger as they got closer then it hit me.By slapping the wrist of Ramidel and letting him on his way
Lovely resolution, isn't it?
"My life is my own" | If you want to contact me privately, please ask first on the forum.I wouldn't say so. I agreed with the decisions taken by the admins in the Appeal thread and I think they often get a lot of criticism they don't necessarily deserve, but at the same time I think there's a line between supporting the moderation team and being obsequious, and I think it was crossed in that thread.

Juan, "didn't do what I wanted them to" is not the same as "didn't do anything." And no, saying "fuck TV Tropes", then claiming you were trying to inspire discussion wouldn't fly, because there's nothing in "fuck TV Tropes" to inspire discussion. It's simply an inflammatory statement; it offers no hook for conversation or discussion.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Then we discuss the "because..."?
to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at theeThen you'd only have half the people calling troll and the other half agreeing and the other half going "No, your wrong because..." and then the thread is locked.
I do apologize for pretty much staying in a certain little roleplay for quite some time. And disappearing here for more times, only surfacing to do the occassional liveblog (and pimping it).
The thing is, with seeing so many people leaving recently, I don't know what to think. Especially when it comes to those who I knew (Spain and Charlatan, even though I believe I met the latter in one of his forum games). And yes, this site has changed quite a bit. I'd almost make a dissimile about how this site is like a person: young and immature in the beginning, but as it's growing up, it becomes more mature. And there are some fears about how our little TV Tropes is growing up (hence the changes and the people disliking changes/the way things are running).
As for me? I'm definitely going to stay. If I won't be in the certain little roleplay (which I decided to take a hiatus on that for six to nine months, maybe to a year, due to me adjusting to me having a job and taking a nice, long break—the only time I'll appear is if people want me to be on arcs), I'll also be in the liveblogs. I dunno if I would appear on the Trash Heap or Troper Updates, but those are possibilities.
I feel that while there are some things that may strike me as odd as TV Tropes is growing up, those changes will be needed, for better or for worse. And I know several people that are still going to be here, so...no need to give up, no?
So in other words, too long; didn't read, about the only thing I'll be absent in is Forum Roleplays, but I may appear from time to time on other areas. Don't expect any guarantees that I'll appear every day. (Especially on Fridays, where I spend time with my family, replacing Monday when I didn't have work.)

Can we maybe talk about people who are leaving in this thread? Or at least, not import the gorram "Ramidel is a genocidal nazi who got off scott free and handed a puppy" derail from Appeal to the Mods? Please?
Fresh-eyed movie blog
I acknowledge that he did, but it really shouldn't have gone on for so long. Neither side seems willing to understand where the other is coming from.
