All the commotion stirred Flandre from her nap, lifting her head from the window. She looked out the window she was next to, watching the moving landscape. Her gaze slowly drifted upwards as she looked at the void in the sky.
Turning his attention from the Administrator to his courier, Bolas let a flash of irritation creep into his mindvoice, "Rey Mysterio, those are mere illusions. Parlor tricks. If it would comfort you I could create for you exact replicas inside your vehicle. There is nobody outside that window. Remember what you have been told; your senses fail you and that of your comrades are more reliable. Do not force them to the outcome you so fear from them. I have tasked you with a very important mission. Carry it out."

"An unanticipated side-effect of the artefact's activation," Washington replied smoothly, "and the casualties from the creatures' attack, while tragic, were unavoidable and well within acceptable losses; now that the evacuation of Valhalla has been completed, I need only keep them from directly interacting with the artefact itself until sunrise. I do not seek to 'doom this world', as you so melodrammatically put it, boy; if anything, I am saving it. The artefact will secure Humanity's place within the universe; the appearance of the creatures, and their subsequent onslaught, are merely a trial we must overcome to prove that we are worthy of inheriting its power."
"You're insane," Dr. Langley spat. "What rational person could possibly want anything to do with something that could cause a catastrophe of this magnitude? What gould could possibly come from something that can blot out the sky, and wreak unimagineable havoc upon the cosmos in this fashion?"
"There are forces involved beyond your understanding or control, Doctor," Washington replied smoothly and patronizingly, as though he were lecturing a slow child. "And I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain them to you; suffice it to say, your band of miscreants won't be getting within a mile of that digsite."
If the Administrator had received Bolas' telepathic communication at all, he gave no indication that this was the case.
And indeed they were; the two ghastly, smiling children had followed Rey from his initial spot all the way to the doors of the bus, and they were giggling softly to themselves. They waved at their 'father', and one of them smiled and pointed at Flandre, seemingly ecstatic at finding a child close to his own aparent age.
Let us in, Papa...we want to play...
On the upper deck of the spinnerbus, a sudden surge of apprehension drew Ravage's gaze skyward. Peering through one of the windows, he saw a flash of lightning briefly illuminate Bolas in the starless night sky.
The Predacon's red optics widened in alarm as he noticed, quite quickly, that the sorcerous dragon was not alone in the skies...

In Rey's vision, the apparitions would have multiplied a dozenfold, each indistinguishable from each other. Bolas maintained the realism of these illusions by drawing directly from the copy of Rey's memories he now kept. He only kept himself from completely dismissing the man by turning it into a little game. "If they're really there, Rey, tell me which ones are they?"

He might have said more, nonetheless, but the commotion behind him was becoming alarming. Seeing Rey going for the doors, his eyes went wide and he lunged for the luchadore, grabbing on to his arms to stop him from opening them.
"Rey, stop! Your visions are not real! You must trust us! You are being deceived and your mind poisoned by the forces rallied against us!"
Swiftly glancing over the rest of the group to make sure no one else was affected, Jack noticed and was alarmed at Flandre's steady gazing up into the sky.
"Little girl, please stop that at once! It is not safe! Someone stop her!"

Rey grunted and stumbled to the ground at Link's grab, breath starting to hitch and wheeze slightly as he stared around at the vision from Bolas. "Stop it...stop it, what are you doing...stop...please stop please stop, I don't want to...I don't want to do this..."

Its a good thing Flandre was looking at the sky too. She spotted the thing flying with Bolas and leaned backwards. "Hey guys. I think they can fly now." She said, pointing to where she last saw the monster.

" BE QUIET!"
The voice in his head chuckled.
"So be it... But you shouldn't have let your guard down...."
With a mounting sense of horror, Link realized that he had let go of Rey.
Then, a lancing pain struck him in his temples.
"Gah!"
He sunk to the ground, clutching his head in agony.
"Yes... I will take you.... you will be mine...."

Vezon grabbed Rey's shoulders. "Easy, easy, easy... Now listen Rey, I'm not exactly the best judge on what's there and what isn't, so I'm just gonna say you're right, and they are outside. Now, where do you think those children are in more danger. Out in the fresh air and sun, or right with the very people that the monstrosities will be targeting any hour now. I know you want them in good hands, but in situations of peril as grave as these, no hands is good hands. Wait...never mind. My point is, go take a look outside, tell them how daddy's been doing, tell them the nearest place of sanctuary that won't be attacked, tell them you love them, and say goodbye."

"THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME! THAT DOES NOT EXCUSE A LACK OF COMMON COURTESY!" Vezon walked off in a huff, but not before turning to Link and saying. "And will you two pack it in?"

A burst of dark mist, and Dark Link stood before Vezon.
In a blur, the Seventh Piraka found a black-gloved hand at his throat, lifting him up.

To Rey, then, "Then trust them over yourself. If they tell you something is not there, than it is so. Protect the artifact, and I will soothe your mind as I can."

Rey remained crouched on the ground, panting softly...then turned his gaze at the sound, staring at Link. The barest hint of a red flash was apparent from behind his helmet's visor as he spoke.
"Stop it."
Easing back into life one step at a time
Rey would feel approval fill his mind, now that he had shifted his focus to more worthwhile things. Having learned that using these abilities causes Rey pain, he started shunting what pain Rey accumulated
not to Link, but directly to the dark construct within Link's mind. Whether or not the entity could feel pain was a moot point; Bolas was showing that it could not escape notice as easily as simply switching out.

Vezon dropped to the ground as Dark Link turned to face the dragon, his expression unchanged.
"I see that you are quite serious about this. And you do have the power to carry out your threat...
He mused for a moment.
"Very well."
"However... do not make the mistake of viewing me at the same level as my weakling Other...."
Picking Rey up with one hand and little effort, he smiled at him menacingly.
"Hello. You appear to be... hindering my counterpart's mission. Cease this behaviour immediately, and return to your senses.....
"Now."
The magic he put into his voice was much the same as that in Link's previous spell. However, instead of compelling, they forced their way into his mind, telling him to obey...
He put him down on a seat.
If Bolas's spell was working, he showed no sign of it.

Bolas had finished creating Rey's mental blueprint, it had revealed some very interesting information. Some he could take advantage of to perhaps bring Rey back from the brink, the rest had uses later. He heard, though, Washington's address through the radio. He searched the skies for the man's mental signature, from memory off their brief meeting earlier. The man was incredibly high up, but there.
"You too are being observed, Washington. You meddle with forces obviously beyond your control, and you threaten those with the means to stop them? You are no doubt a smart man and can guess who it is that now addresses you in such a private fashion. You know my... area of expertise. Do not hinder the efforts of myself or my compatriots or I will let your planet burn in the face of the cataclysm you are confronted with, instead of stopping it."
