A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

The Doctor is still panting from the near Mind Rape. "I'll try."

He tries to connect to Asuka's mind in the prison.

"Have Courage, Doctor...."

A warm golden glow would suffuse the Time Lord, restoring his clarity and stamina, calming his soul.

"Have Courage."

The Doctor smiles and tries to pass some of the energy to Asuka.

Link willed the glow to fade away, his goal achieved. He realized that he was beginning to tire slightly, especially from the constant use of magic he had been keeping up lately.

I'm not Zelda.... or Ganondorf for that matter. I'm not a warlock or a spellcaster .... I'm a warrior. I don't rely completely on magic... I fight.

There's not much else I can do, is there? He let the gloomy thought fade away with a sigh, and moved back into his previous defensive position, eyes once again on the alert.

Mason managed to get thrown away.
"FOR THE LOVE OF CRAP!"
Then he had an Idea. A stupid, likely-to-get-him-killed idea.
"Everyone out of the way, I'm tossing a Frag!" He took off his Flak Jacket, took out a grenade, and did a grenade jump with his jacket under his feet.

Hope dived out of what he thought the blast zone was going to be.

"Are you really sure that's a good idea?"

"No. It's a very bad idea, but it will work."

True to the TGS operative's suspicions, Asuka barely reacted at all as Spriggan showered her with bullets; though all of the projectiles hit, not a one left so much as a scratch in the fabric of her glossy red gown or a wound in the palid of her face and hair-arms. Blink's chemical concotion garnered a bit more of a reaction, causing the multi-armed monstrosity to shield her face with two of her limbs and avert her gaze with a startled gasp, but beyond this distraction the water and exploding fireworks seemed not to inflict any great deal of harm. Disrupting Asuka's concentration in this fashion did seem to have one positive effect, though; the intense emerald light of her green orb guttered and went out, the spell she had been about to cast dying before it could accumulate enough energy.

Rey's shadowbolts struck the hanging snake along its sinnuous length, causing the beast to rasp in what might have been pain and anger as the necrotic energy began to wither part of its armoured coils; notably, this serpentine creature did not seem to regenerate from injury as quickly as Asuka herself did. In retaliation, the adder's mouth cracked open with a hiss of escaping gas, and a thick torrent of black, tarlike flames erupted from its mouth to streak towards the luchadore; as this fiery breath weapon had issued forth in a cone, anyone standing within ten feet of Rey on either side would be caught in the blast as well...and whatever effect these eldritch flames might have on whatever they struck, chances were quite high that it was not going to be good.

At the same time, the crackle of distant thunder filled the air, and the Champions would find their nostrils flooded with the distinctive ozone tang of an imminent electrical discharge; moments later, vivid bolts of indigo electricity flared into existence some twenty feet above these heroic warriors and their Nomad allies before dropping towards them at incredible speed. It would be extremely difficult to avoid being smote from on-high in this fashion, but it could be done; the Champions would just have to move really fast.

Lambda staggered as one bolt struck him and dropped to one knee, grimacing in pain as arcs of electricity gamboled across his argent robe to set it ablaze. That had been indescribably painful, and while he had endured far worse than this, he would prefer to avoid a repeat performance. The silver Nomad attempted to lift an arm and retaliate in kind, but found that he could not; for the time being, at least, he had been immobilized by the intense electricity now coursing across and through his body, and until this paralysis lifted even the act of standing up was beyond his capabilities.

Mason's grenade exploded, but his flak jacket did not catch the explosion in such a way that would have catapulted him over the barrier and given him access to the pedestal it concealed; instead, he was flung headfirst towards the nearest of those bony pillars and slammed into it with no small amount of force, causing the cracks on its surface to spread even further. This impact was surviveable, but such a blow to the head would leave him dazed at the very least; even so, he could take some solace in the knowledge that the pillar which had become his unintentional airbag was now teetering precariously on the verge of collapse: the stone pillar groaned ominously and sway, like a tree whose trunk had been sawn through halfway and was now finishing the task of felling itself through its own weight.

As the Doctor attempted to make contact with the mind of the curled-up woman contained within the abdominal wound of the crucified giantess, he would a chaotic slew of images and sensations not unlike his earlier experience with Asuka's psionic attack. Unlike that attack, however, these thoughts and memories made no attempt to overwhelm the Time Lord's mind, and they did not seem quite so negative as those which had been imposed on him a few minutes before; of the emotions running rampant through this slew, the most predominant were a mixture of desperation and hope. Then a single word ghosted through the Doctor's head—faintly at first, but growing stronger and louder as the word's speaker—a familiar, woman's voice—repeated it a few more times:

K   e   y...   K   ey...Ke   y   ...

"Oww."
He saw the pillar.
"It worked but differently than how I expected. I was always told I was a hothead, but never a fucking hard head."
He then addressed Spriggan.
"Cover me while I pass out."
True to his word, he did.

The Doctor keeps the contact and starts running. "Break the pillar Mason hit! Asuka wants the Key!"

Hope started lobbing fireballs and ice crystals at the cracks.

Blink teleported out of the way of the electrical blast. She knew there wasn't much left she could do now, not without all her tools or her equipment. The best she could do at the moment was keep moving.

Mason stirred slightly.
"Key. Right."
Crawling to the pillar, he placed his last grenade. Before pulling the pin, he got up. Then ran after he pulled the pin. Then passed out again.

Hope quickly switched from tossing fireballs to throwing spheres of healing magic before Mason had even hit the floor.

Mason immediately shot back into consciousness.

Iota's impromptu earthen sheid is all that protected him from the electrical attack, even if it obliterated it, due to his size and how close he was to the origion point. In responce, one of his eyes began to glow green, and the wind aroud him began to churn.

"Cover me."

Spriggan seized firing while he begin to drag Mason by his vest.

"It's okay Spriggan, I'm conscious."

Hope's fireballs and blizzard spells further weakened the already-weakened pillar, causing it to groan with increasing pitch and volume as the cracks on its surface spread wider and wider; then Mason's last grenade went off, tearing a huge chunk out of the bony spar. Unable to support itself in its current state, the ossified spike slowly began to topple over; it was rather fortunate that Spriggan had made the effort to drag Mason out of the way, for otherwise the soldier would have been crushed to death beneath the pillar as it came crashing down. In its place, the toppled upthrust left a gap in the barrier, through which the pulsating purple pedestal that was the Key's receptacle could be seen and a relatively slim man or woman could slip.

The Doctor would feel those sensations of hope growing stronger and rising to the fore, and the crucified giantess began to breathe louder as if in anticipation of her impending release. Hur   r   y!

In response to this, the multi-armed aspect of Lambda's wife snarled in rage. She will not be free, she roared, spreading all of her arms wide and holding them out as the yellow corona surrounding her body intensified. I am the only Asuka, the only one that matters! Let us end this—it is the path of your choosing!

With these words, twin points of red light flared to vivid light within the voids where her eyes should have been, and the entire chamber shook and rumbled ominously as what appeared to be fourteen distant stars became visible, twinkling somewhere beyond the ceiling.

KOMM, SUSSER TOD!!!

Then the stars flared into distant novas for a brief instant—and fourteen crackling rays of red-tinged black light descended from on-high like bolts of divine retribution. They fell randomly, atomizing whatever they hit and exploding with great force as they blossomed into strange, cross-shaped pillars of ebony energy; even if the Champions and their Nomad allies managed to avoid being disintegrated by a direct hit, they would still be greatly injured by the resulting detonations.

Lambda was swept up in one such explosion when one of these black rays struck the ground directly in front of him, and he cried out in pain and surprise as the aftershock picked him up and tossed him into the lake of blood; still paralyzed from his earlier electrocution, the argent deity sank into those sanguine waters and swiftly vanished from sight.

"No... Lambda... HURRY! We need the key in now!"

"All right. Your handiwork's taken care of, Mason."

Spriggan told Mason after he helped him get up.

"It's now or never."

With a pop, Blink appeared in the gap. She had narrowly avoided being disintergrated of broken by one of the explosions. She held on hand out.

"Give me that key thing! I can get through!"

Narumi and Phi get caught in the explosions. The duo had a hard time trying to get up.

"Gah!"

Flipping backwards, Link was only saved from certain death by the magical properties of the Mirror Shield - the glancing hit of the beam deflected by the enchanted glass.

"Lambda!"

Running over to the pool of blood, he donned the Zora Tunic and dived in after taking a deep breath - he'd never actually tried swimming in blood before, but there was no time for hesitation.

Holding the Lens of Truth to his eye, he began searching for the silver deity.

Rey's eyes had widened at the incoming burst of fire, and only barely was he able to scramble out of the way of the worst of it. However, even with his armor, the glancing blow was enough to send him tumbling forward, landing with a hard thump and a cry of pain as he fell, gritting his teeth and laying still, even his huge tolerance overwhelmed. He managed not to scream, but it wasn't difficult to see he was in a rather tremendous amount of pain.
