The "*depressed* SO I'M A SOU-UKE..." was awesome in the manga, and simply priceless in the anime. Totally loved it, voice acting was spot-on too.

Pffft, I'm pretty sure they referenced FREE!! in the episode today.

Now that Comiket is over, you sure feel regretful about what you missed on, right? Now that you think about it, we didn't get any Doujinshi about swimming... Missed on indeed, the guys making the show would have loved to be able to joke about FREE!!... Alas, Kyoto Animation didn't make that series until now

This episode reminded my why I love Yajima~

While I don't hate this show anymore and look forward to new episodes, this show really did confirm my belief that Hato is the Poochie of Genshiken. Whenever the focus is not on Hato, the rest of the characters are either thinking Hato or talking about him.

Also I still want Kuchiki to get hit by a bus.

Sue had her dream come true for about two seconds.

I hope she gets more character development.

Sue and Nyaako are totally the perfect pair. They should team up to annoy people more often.

Her defining trait is how inscrutable she is. Same with Naoko. Develop either too much and they lose their current appeal.

Of course, we can count on Kio to do it in an entertaining way nonetheless.

Yajima is still my favorite, for reasons I can't explain, but I do like Sue as well.

It's odd. Genshiken drew me in because I recognised my exact behaviour in Sasahara, and it remains one of few shows that I can relate to as real people in real situations, and the only thing in Japanese animation I know that shows its characters' sexuality without pushing it for fanservice or any agenda. (Watamote may be based on real experience, but not mine.)

But it also has a minority of over-the-top gag characters, who fit in much better than they should. The president, Sue, even Kousaka to some extent. The sort who can't be given too much focus or they will either humanize too much or become unbearable. I still can't quite explain how it works.

One thing about episode 7 I took a while to notice: It never leaves the clubroom except in flashbacks. And that talk of romance is probably about as downbeat as this somewhat rose-tinted vision of otakudom will get.

He doesn't have a mental disorder, he's just an asshole.

There are people who act like that, whether it's a diagnosed disorder or not. But I wish he had some sort of personality other than infuriating everyone around. I kind of blank him out as I watch.

It seems like there was a sort of triple confession (Well, it was more like Angela confessing for herself, Sue, and Hato) from Angela, Sue, and Hato. And Madarame runs into Keiko on his way out and breaks his hand again.

Was a little hard to get used to, but overall I can picture what happened in the chapter after that summary/script. If you could get to the other chapters too, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Episode 8: the gender awkwardness is maybe being wrung out a little too much, but it had my attention throughout. Odd that there's plenty of yaoi imaginings but much less of what you would expect from male otaku. I guess it's harder to make them character-focused. (Or they're harder to animate, or they cannot fit for airing.)

There is a personal anecdote that might be relevant to the Mada x Hato drama: I have a same-sex friend who always flirts with me, and this is someone who flirts with everyone and everything in any circumstances, and I find myself entirely at ease with this because it is done in such a brazen and shameless manner that there's nothing to feel awkward about. Awkwardness is what we make of it.
