He wasn't really hitting DIO's shin, though. He hit The World's shin. It broke his Stand. So Jotaro basically shattered DIO's soul by hitting it really hard with his own soul. That's why the defeat makes some sense'''.

I must reiterate:

But ignoring all of that - this is a vampire. Vampires have stupid regen to the point where splitting Dio in half doesn't work. Polnareff stabbed a sword through Vanilla Ice's face. If anybody should be able to survive Stand destruction it should be a vampire - damage to the Stand is transferred to the user, sure, but the damage a human can take is far lesser than the damage a vampire can take.

Whether or not you are OK with that is up to you.

I'm not    because that doesn't make sense. The vampire is still capable of surviving a head split, so an instant kill via punch to the punching ghost does not make sense to me in the slightest.

It made sense to me how when Empress got ripped apart it caused her Stand User to literally fall to pieces in front of Polnareff. She couldn't survive this because she wasn't a f-ckmothering vampire. It makes sense when a person takes extensive damage from a Stand. It doesn't when a vampire does.

I refuse to let that point go.

wild mass guessJoseph actually died and the Joseph that returned to life was DIO. He just really likes Josuke for some reason. Probably because Josuke likes punching holes in people, too.wild mass guess

It didn't insta kill Dio. It's just that having his entire torso exploded knocked him out for long enough that they could just wait for dawn so the sun could finish him off. He absolutely could've recovered if what was left of him had been stored somewhere dark.

[up]Yeah, that's why they sun-baked him to begin with. It was pretty clear they were afraid he was going to regenerate.

Also I just wanna say every time I heard before now that "Jotaro shattered DIO's leg", I had been thinking he specifically aimed there and was confused as hell. It read a lot better seeing it in action: two blows collide, one shatters the other so completely it pulverizes the opponent completely. I could swear there's a trope for that.

I was under the impression that The World was made of weaker stuff than DIO himself was. DIO may be a vampire, but his Stand isn't, and hitting his Stand really hard bypassed DIO's vampiric regeneration because The World isn't vampiric. Basically, The World was actually DIO's big glowing weak point.

Plus I believe Stands get weaker if their user is injured.

DIO really shouldn't have went for a kick even if it wasn't the bad leg specifically.

PMC has hit the nail on the head. Of all the problems with that fight - and they are there, don't get me wrong - that DIO's stand's destruction wrecked his body is not one of them. I'm not surprised that he couldn't heal properly from that; them dusting his body is more making sure than anything else.

There are great things going on in the fight, especially the bit where Jotaro's pinned down and has to stop his own heart. But it just kind of ends weakly, in my opinion; the problem is that Araki establishes right at the start that The World is outright better than Star Platinum so the moments when Jotaro overpowers him, especially at the end, don't really feel right to me.

Part 3 is probably the weakest part overall. Yes, it put Jo Jo on the map, but some of the most popular arcs of some other manga aren't what I consider the best either - for example, the Freeza Arc in DBZ is the most popular but I hold several arcs above it.

I think The World should've been a tiny bit weaker than Star Platinum in direct combat, and DIO's advantage was with both the time-stop and using his own body to attack Star Platinum alongside The World, establishing that DIO himself is almost as strong as his own Stand is.

But DIO isn't anywhere near as strong as his stand is if it's just slightly worse than SP. He certainly isn't anywhere near as fast. His body advantage is more that he can take blows better and he can heal.

Dio showed some pretty crazy strength feats all the way back in Part 1, at least on par with some of the more medium-strength Stands. Star Platinum and The World may be strong, but Part 1 Dio was already capable of some fairly superhuman shit. No reason why DIO wouldn't at least be comparable, especially after he took Joseph's blood and perfected his link with Jonathan's body.

Well, I think The World is weaker, or at least not used to its full physical potential. Notice how it's usually DIO doing the fighting and his Stand just throws out support time stops.

When SP punched him in the skull, he could've had The World parry. I think he's not quite as confident in its power as he'd suggest.

Jonathan's body would've serious compromised Dio's vampiric abilities, so that might have something to do with it

Do you ever think about that moment in Part 1 where a ghoul is threatening a girl and hovering over her, and Jonathan drops an anvil on the back of his head from the skylight? Jonathan was really fucking lucky that particular ghoul was strong enough that said anvil didn't do any noticeable damage, or else Jonathan totally could've accidentally killed that girl with an anvil/knocking a very large ghoul onto her with an anvil. I think about that from time to time.

The blacksmith, of course.

In fact, fun detail, the manufacturer who made that anvil still exists 100 years later, only then they've both gone international and began building heavy machinery like road rollers.
