Something in regards to part 8 and into part 9. I'm wondering if the lava rock is somehow related to, or the karmic inverse of Wonder of U. Granted it's not as powerful as Wonder of U, but we're also barely been introduced to it as an audience. I suppose that a more firmer duality could be between that of Love Train and Wonder of U but I don't think that it quite fits personally since Love Train does not make the user lucky in and of itself, rather it explicitly causes misfortune to deflect to a random target rather than the user. The lava rock on the other hand, brings fortune. Thus far only in terms of things that are monetarily valuable, but perhaps it's not necessarily limited to that?

A FAMILY TRYING TO BREAK A CURSE DURING THE WORST WEEK OF THEIR ENTIRE LIVES

Or otherwise known as David Bowie Murder Mystery Part 2

in which a David Bowie guy tries to solve his own murder using his Stand, Spongeboy, a ghost that lets him blow magic soap bubbles that let him steal facial hair and friction from other people

There's also a side story about an old British woman getting helped across the street by a Japanese tourist with vine-length arm hairs, but that's probably not going to be relevant to Part 9.

I understood that reference. Basically JJBA, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem were my favorites of that series.

Wait wha

Uh, of course.

The actual plot is Josuke Higashikata waking up with Laser-Guided Amnesia, getting taken in by a Japanese family of perverts, a drug dealer, and at least one ex-con, taking an interest in his neighbor who likewise has a ghost haunting her. Togwther they discover an outfit of criminals who also have ghosts that they're using to mass produce a special fruity drug called the Locacaca, unveiling the existence of a group of antagonists called Rock Humans, think the Pillar Men from Part 2 but a re-do.

Paths and characters converge around Josuke as he seeks the fruit, leading him into the crosshairs of a Stand user named Toru and his ghost Wonder of U whose ability tldr is a weaponized form of Murphy's Law aka anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Eventually this crosses with the family Josuke aas adopted into and the final battle redeems/kills the most villainous members of said family. Josuke and his neighbor survive these events and presumably have some interesting sexual relations due to Josuke having a quadruple set of testicles the result of which will likely produce the main characters of Parts 10 and 11.

New Jojolands chapter dropped:

I'll be jumping around a little here, kinda like the narrative in this chapter. The group is now at the airport, with the new guy being there as well, Charmingman. He may or may not be a rock human, it's kind of still unclear although he says that his dry skin is a skin condition. We learn from flashbacks that him and his little brother were mountain biking on Hualalai when his little brother was seemingly sucked into a lava tube that was streaming water even though the area is known for being completely parched. The police are incompetent/hostile so they're no good. Charmingman eventually comes across Rohan, who is in the area testing something by dropping money and seeing where it gathers.

In the present day, the watch comes back to the group at the airport although it's in less than stellar condition. Charmingman does not consider Rohan an enemy; he also seems to know more about the lava rock than the group or we the audience do, since he's convinced that none of the group will be willing to stick it out for some reason. The group successfully return with the diamond to Meryl, with Charmingman waiting outside, but Meryl's immediately suspicious that they took as long as they did but didn't raise any alarms. Dragona is the one to begin spilling the beans, aided by the fact that the diamond that Meryl just put in the safe is now on back on her desk. The chapter ends with Meryl plotting something.

After this chapter, I no longer believe Charmingman is a Rock Human. The sandy skin makes more sense as a pre-manifestation of his Stand, and he seemed to unaware of the supernatural in his flashback.

I'm not 100% convinced, but this chapter did go a long way towards me thinking he's not. Unless the flashback itself is false information given to the audience, which is something that I don't think that Araki has done. The lava tubes definitely are giving the same vibes as the wall eyes from Jojolion too, but whether or not they'll be important to this story is still unknown. Certainly seems like they will be.

He was underwater for an extended period of time. Probably not a rock human.

Meryl is highly hinted to have ties with the police right? She has ties with education, culture, smuggling and now the police. Definitely seems like high ranking antagonist material.

At this point it's probably just too early to tell. She could be a bad guy or even the big bad, or she could be a good guy, or she could just be someone who gets sidelined or unceremoniously killed by a bigger threat. The thing about Jojo is that there's never a guarantee on any character.

That's definitely true. My hope is that she has a Stand and is really strong, and she goes on to be a mentor and ally, until she dies in an epic battle with the main villain near the end.

Rereading the wiki page on Wonder of U. Anybody else think this ability, not King Crimson, is trying to do too much at once and is more confusing than not?

Like it casts illusions, activates via two conditions, activates when Toru wants it too, makes the enrivonment highly dangerous, breaks a Stand rule by being visible to non-Stand users, allows Toru to be in two places at once, and holds up a convoluted Araki-ism about the flow of energy in the universe. It runs a karma check on people caught in the crossfirw, has a delay when larger objects collide with victims, can FLY for some reason, and the Stand persists even after Toru dies.

I don't know how any of this relates to Toru, or if they link around the theme of calamity the way the story implies. Do they feel like convenient final boss powers moreso than a really creative and unified ability, or am I high?

This is just my opinion on it, but I didn't think it was that confusing or convoluted. Is it overpowered? Yeah probably, but final villain Stands always have been to some extent. Wonder of U being able to wander around isn't all the unusual given that automatic Stands have been a thing since part four, and being able to be seen by non-Stand users is unusual, but I would even consider that more of a liability than an asset depending.

The thing as I see it though, is that the end of the day, Wonder of U has an extremely simple but utterly devastating power. If you intend to pursue either the Stand or the user, you are drawn into the flow of calamity; once you're in the flow of calamity anything becomes dangerous, potentially everything can be lethal. You want it to stop? Okay. Literally don't even think about pursuing either of them.

[up][up]Sorry in advance if it’s not the case, but you sound like you didn’t read the Wonder of U chapters. It’s really only trying to do one thing and the rest of the “two many things” on the list are secondary background mechanics that only feel intrusive when reading a wiki list of all them. Its fight is pretty straightforward.
