I'm also going with REM being Vanitas, considering the novel's description of him.

Vanitas isn't THAT big a woobie in the novel. He's certainly not as woobieish as Omniavanitas made him out to be.

I'm going with it not being Vanitas since the novel is, as far as I know, non-canon and only Nightmare Dream Eaters have been observed as having red eyes.

In the novel, it says that before Ventus connected with Sora, Vanitas had red eyes and a black body. apparently his face was "no different from the unverse". I think that this sounds a lot like REM.

The novel's canocity is debatable. As far as I know, the novels have never contradicted the games, unlike the mangas.

True, but he's the only person we know of who has (or had) red eyes. And everyone wears the cloak these days.

I don't know what the Hunter of the Dark is, though. If he's an unversed, then he's just a part of Vanitas. If he's a heartless, then I have no idea what he has to do with anything. I go with the theory that seems most likely and that would tell me most.

Anyone else notice that the monster's image has yellow eyes, not red?

It's not an Unversed, Aqua says so. It's clearly a heartless and I find it unlikely they added it for no reason. It being the final boss could be important.

edit: They look kind of orange in that picture but they're red in the game.

Well it's in the Realm of Darkness which is home to the Heartless and Aqua realizes it's not an Unversed. She calls it "A resident of the realm of darkness."

Read the article, its eyes are red when it's hidden in the shadows. But no, I don't think it's the guy the in hood either.

No, in the game it's eyes are yellow, but have a red glow to them when it first attacks you.

If REM is a heartless, then how'd he gain human form? If he's a Nobody, then whose Nobody is he?

They're orange if anything.

Heartless have had human forms before.

This reminds me of a funny theory I had. I thought Red Eyes was Vanitas's Heartless.
