Cain coins the term "Reploid" to describe the first robot he made based on X. If it later came to have a broader meaning, it'd be in-universe linguistic drift. Which would honestly make sense - nobody, even people "in the know," treats X like he's the master mold of every single other reploid in the world.
I wonder if we know Cain's first reploid.
Cain himself speaks of X as a reploid.
As I recall, X doesn't actually know he's a robot created by Light and thinks he's a Reploid in some adaptations.
That and most of the other Hunters and Reploids look down on him for being such an outdated model.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Reploids as a whole lack pattern recognition it seems
You’d think after the 500th person that mocks X for being outdated and then immediately explodes every future reploid would learn that no technological advance will ever be as good as some stuff a guy dug out of the ground after a hundred years
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLike I said in the Fire Emblem thread, it's a bad guy trend to act like the heroes are weak and are no match for you despite having wiped the floor with your armies, and logically the bad guys should be crapping themselves in fear when they see X and/or Zero at their doorstep.
But nah, just look down on the pacifist. Even the Zero villains get in on this, and keep underestimating Zero for being a centuries old piece of tech. I do like how in X's story mode, Vile is utterly in disbelief that he lost to X. I do wish the series expanded on their rivalry and Vile just gets more and more unhinged at losing to X.
Even Sigma at one point realized that X is unstoppable so he changed tactics and tried to possess him. And then forgetting about it later on. It IS still notable that Sigma will acknowledge X as superior to Zero in X5, if X is the one to reach him.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. That is something X5 got right, at least. The Mavericks seem to realize that their number is up when you're the one after them, even as X/Zero tries to deescalate.
Do the Mega Man X games ever reveal what happened to the original Mega Man?
I don't think so.
No, but we do know what happened to Auto!
I honestly think that Classic and X make more sense as separate forks, like Battle Network and Classic
I know that there’s all these continuity nods but there’s so much between point classic and point X that the most common fan theory is that an apocalypse happened between them
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWasn't it stated that robotics technology regressed by the time Dr. Cain found X, or is that fanon?
It's fanon, but it does make more sense that there was some intention not to make an A.I on X's level rather than somehow nobody was able to reach it in an entire century. Especially since they already were close to it with the Robot Masters, who have their own personalities and consciousness but are limited by their programming and the three laws
The idea that there was some ruling to prevent Reploids being made in the 100 year gap also plays into Dr Light's statement in Maverick Hunter X that people aren't ready for X as a factor for why he was sealed.
A la the Butlerian thing in Dune but less severe?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's not unlikely that things went bad between Classic and X. Mega Man isnt afraid of people suffering an apocalyptic event or four.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireThat's exactly how I theorized what went down between Classic and X to explain why Light's lab became a ruin Dr. Cain dug up because he was an archeologist.
Duranzo: kinda? a lot of them arent really evil robots in the same they are desing for combat, most if not all of them are infected and know they will be put down, so they just kinda said their goodbyes.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"eh, I'd just say cuts of the fandom are just too attached to Bob and George's headcanon of some Zero-centric apocalypse happening for edginess. On the contrary, no one saying anything about anything important happening between Classic and X would point to there being no such events. And it fits with the production lore for X.

I know what this is, but I've never read it.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI really wonder how the Archie Comics would have handled the gap? Oh what could have been...
Honestly, while the whole Zero kills the OG Mega Man cast theory is interesting, it's pretty notable that none of them have a convincing reason why Zero is sealed up in a capsule if he did kill the cast.
Even the Bob and George version just has Zero beaten by Auto of all people.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I will never understand why people are so desperate to make Classic MM edgy, to be quite honest.

Trans rights are human rights.I mean they ended the comic with them all going on vacation and just not interfering anymore.
A Zero based ending for MM doesnt make much sense. But something has to happen to destroy Light's lab and bury X's chamber.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireWell, most of them grew up with Classic Mega Man, and wanted it to suit their tastes as they became edgy adults.
That and Classic Mega Man does have some messed up implications when thinking about it.
And I say this as a fan of the Protomen, Megaas, and the Legacy of Metal fics.
At the same time, it is kinda anti-climatic that Zero was just locked up in his capsule because he wouldn't obey Dr. Wily.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Where did it say that X was sealed in THE Light lab? I would think he would be placed in somewhere that couldn't be reached by the public.
X2 (the X-Hunters watching X), X4 (in Zero's ending), and X5 (in X and Zero's boss talks with Sigma). The last especially. Tvs C is more of a bonus even if it has the only certain time Wily spoke to Zero in the present.
Day of Sigma also have Cain and Sigma himself speak of X as a reploid.
