I think... both you and Ragna are kind of wrong. Let me explain.

The people who asked about why Moerin was banned from the RP weren't actually in the RP at the time it happened. It had also been three or so months since that had happened. While Ragna might've went too far in trying to get that information from you, I believe, in this case, the people who asked deserved the information. Just to give an example, would you, Doctor Thunder, know what happened in the discussion thread of the Hercine RP three months ago? I sure as heck don't.

One of your flaws as a GM, I think, is that you are far too willing to declare a subject off-limits, and I think that flaw had affected your GMing here. I believe what the people had asked was a reasonable request. Now of course, as GM, you don't have to tell them that information, but it does give a somewhat bad impression when relative newbies ask about it and you say it's off-limits.

Well, thanks for your input, GG. I'm sorry if it seems that way to you, but I'm actually going to have to disagree with you. I think I'm very willing to talk things out in full, and I'm generally not one to just declare a subject to be "off-limits". I think there are probably quite a few people, particularly among those who are frequently on Skype, who would express just the opposite opinion as the one you seem to hold.

The only reason I wanted to avoid discussing our reasons for keeping Moerin out in this particular case was because the argument itself had already been done to death months beforehand, and I (and some of the others) felt simply asking for the subject to be let go would run less of a risk of everything ballooning into an unnecessarily-dramatic argument.

You're completely right that Ragna wasn't at all involved in the original conflict, and that's exactly why I didn't want to discuss it with him. I really didn't see a need to, and I still don't think there would have been any need to. Based on how things went, I very much doubt he'd have accepted my explanation had I given it.

Sometimes things ballooning into an unnecessarily-dramatic argument is unavoidable as I think this recent incident proves.

Thunder, would you be alright if I offered to explain to newbies why Moerin was banned from our RP in PM under the expressed condition that it be kept off the boards or Skype? If you say no to this request, I'll understand and drop the subject. I've already said my piece.

I appreciate the offer, but I would feel bad putting you in that position. I'm the one who initially announced the decision, so you shouldn't have to be the one to explain it.

To be totally honest, a big part of why I didn't explain myself in the thread before was because I didn't want to color others' opinions of Moerin over this, particularly because at the end of the day, this is just an online RP. We have fun with it, and I enjoy running things here very much, but this really isn't the sort of thing that merits the level of hostility this entire thing has generated, especially to the point of trying to turn players against each other. At the end of the day, we're all just people who are trying to have fun, and stuff like this just feels so petty when it balloons out to a confrontation of this magnitude.

With that said, if there are people who are really that curious about our reasoning, I guess they can PM me and I'll tell them that way, rather than in any threads. Like I said, I appreciate you offering to take on that responsibility yourself, but it's not something you should feel obligated to do.

Oh... dear, it appears I may or may not have invoked a shit-storm in the sign-up threads.

At any rate, here are my opinions on this subject, based on what I have seen so far.

I am quite heavily inclined to believe that there is no conspiracy against Moerin. Such an undertaking would be disgustingly petty, and I don't feel any person here is like that.

I do not believe that you were trying to trick Ragna in any way. However I should point out that, from what i've seen, Grey star was not really as aggressive as Ragna in asking questions, nor as pressing, yet he/she was banned alongside Ragna, most likely (again, from my perspective) for an offensiveness on Ragna's part. That might have been the reason for his/her passive-aggresive parting post in the signup thread. Although the results may have been the same for Grey star, had Ragna kept to himself, it seemed like a bit of a "ban by association" so to speak, but I degress.

I have not percieved you to be very totalitarian in your G Ming nature. Although I have not been here long, and I am likely very ignorant of this Rp's past, I have found you to be running things quite fairly from what i've experienced.

All this said however, I personally concur with GG's opinion. I can understand how you would not want to exacerbate things, especially if you feel someone's reputation may come to harm. But If you didn't give people a reason for such decisions, while the it would avoid colouring Moe's reputation, it would leave the subject in an obscure Grey hue on which no fair judgement could take place. Besides, one could just as easily ask Moerin herself what happened instead if you are unwilling to tell about it, which would lead to the spread of a perspective coloured by Moerin instead, thus creating more dissent from others outside the rp. As the saying goes, "Ignoring a problem isn't going to make it go away."

Sometimes, it is necessary for some uneasy subjects to be adressed. I will not judge whether Moerin should be let back in until I have heard the opinions of both sides. An explanation by PM would be nice.

Fair enough. That's definitely a good point. Thanks for the input, Melon.

Also, don't worry, you didn't cause a shitstorm of any kind.

I really don't know enough to say whether or not banning Moe was cool, but I think that you were rather justified with banning Ragna since everybody was asking him to drop it and he wouldn't. You gave him fair warning, he ignored it, and you carried through with your word.

As for whether or not you're a totalitarian GM... Yes. You are suffocating us with the iron fist of your regime.

What with your calm words and polite requests.

@Aken: Bravo, good sir. tongue

It's really great to see all of your input on this. We try to be as reasonable as possible at any given time, and it's incredibly relieving to see that isn't lost on you guys amongst some of the crazy drama that happens from time to time.

Granted, Thunder deserves quite a bit more praise in that regard than I do since I mostly just bitch at people to fix things, but the point remains. tongue

Agreed. I think this RP is one of the most organized ones I've ever been in (if that counts for anything), in no small part to the excellent jobs that the GMs are doing.

Sure, maybe you're a bit stern sometimes, but it all turns out for the best. Eventually.

So am I allowed to post in the RP now?

As in, is the event over and can I have Kanaya drop in?

They can't all be victories, so let's at least make this a draw.

#137013: Apr 7th 2012 at 4:11:47 AM

You could, but I think most of the party members are busy trying to help Nick or figure out what to do with Dante's body. That's not to say Kanaya couldn't still show up, but the others are most likely going to want to take care of at least Nick's situation before striking up a conversation with her.

@ Troy:

Thanks, I'm glad you think so.

Vezon has no emotional attachment to the scene unfolding, and so could form the welcoming party.

BTW, I discovered the other day that apparently the character I chose is considered a scrappy in some circles. I hope to resolve this.

Ah, true, Vezon could definitely talk to Kanaya right away. And I don't really know enough about Bionicle to judge whether or not I'd call him a scrappy, but you seem to be doing fine with him so far.

As long as you guys aren't spamming or turning it into the next Off-Topic Chatter thread, there's nothing at all wrong with having conversations here. Really, the main reason we initially asked people to try to limit posting in this thread to stuff related to the game was because there was a while where people were posting so much off-topic stuff that GM announcements would get buried under all of them and no one would be able to find them between all the others. As long as it doesn't get to that point again, you guys can chat here all you want.
