...That hands-on was really adorable.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThey always have people who have no idea what they're doing test the things. At least it wasn't an official look at the game, was it?
That said, it's been a while. What was he doing wrong, again? He seemed to be making steady progress against the boss.
The only fault I picked up was not letting his Pikmin latch on and keep biting the thing and instead constantly calling them back. Which, granted, might be exactly the problem. I don't really remember.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. There's only two bosses in the first Pikmin at all (Beady Long Legs is tucked away behind a stone barricade in the Forest Navel, and Emperor Bulblax is the final boss), though there are a few Bosses In Mook Clothing.
Edit: Nevermind.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'd consider the Smoky Progg a boss. There's only one of them in the entire game, and it's hard to mistake the freakish creature emerging from a giant egg as a mook.
Also, I really like the disadvantage they gave the Rock Pikmin. They hit hard, but they can't grab on to do damage because they have fat bodies and tiny arms. Lovely idea, and it fixes the entire problem with Purple Pikmin (Who were just the best Pikmin to use against everything because they did the most damage). I still hope that there are Purple Pikmin in the game, but I'm glad that the new rock guys work so well.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.The Smoky Progg has no music unlike the other two, though. Though it is certainly more of a pest than the other two. >.<
Also, I'm still betting on Rock Pikmin being "special" Pikmin, like the Bulbmin. Their designs, name, and general theme are very nonstandard from the normal Pikmin, making me think it's more like a temporary transformation or something.
I kinda hope that, as long as they still get use. It just seems sort of awkward listing the main Pikmin types as "Red, Yellow, Blue, White, Purple, and... Rock". Not that I don't like the idea of Rock Pikmin, I just hope they're as special as their specialness would imply.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yeah, that aspect seems more sensible. They hit hard, but can't grab onto stuff. Pikmin 2 pretty much got ruined by Purple Pikmin, and made the game a battle of attrition than actual strategy. Glad it's going back to the roots of Pikmin 1, which was the much better game.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!At least Purples are usually less useful on bosses due to not being able to just stun them and murder them before they move again.
Most bosses, anyway. Emperor Bulblax always dies before the boss theme can even start up for me.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! You know, at the end of the trailer, there appears to be a flying pikmin.
Just felt like mentioning.
I saw that, too. Maybe a Pikmin with a fluffy tuft like a dandelion seed!
I still hope Purples are around, too. Perhaps they can still stun enemies on dropdown, but the damage they do gets reduced or something. Plus, Purples have the cutest design.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI remember Wolf saying that the E3 site says that they're still around.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Ah. Yes, it says the Rock Pikmin will appear "in addition to the five original types of Pikmin encountered in previous games".

Welcome to th:|I'm a bit surprised they went straight for "elemental," though, when they still have several colors unexplored. I hope we do get a few more straight-up "colored" Pikmin.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI think Whites have the cutest design. Those big red eyes are adorable.
Completely disagree. Despite the brokeness of Purple Pikmin, I thought Pikmin 2 was much more enjoyable. The underground dungeons had much more space to explore than the limited overworld in the first game, the variety of bosses lead to enjoyable fights, and the lack of a timer made it much more fun on the first playthrough. Also, I thought it was harder.
But I think both games were great, and I hope number 3 carries on that tradition.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.P2 is a pretty brutal game at times, no doubt. But there's a lot of strategy involved (in an RTS—who'da thunk it!), which the lack of time limit actually gives you some time to work on. Especially so with the bosses, and the larger variety of them available.
And then there's Challenge Mode... oh, sweet Christ on a popsicle stick.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaAh Pikmin 2.
OH GOD UNDERGROUND FLAMINGO!!!
-three days later-
OK, I can take 'em on!
-after an hour of underground delving-
Ha! Underground flamingo.
OH GOD IT GOT OUT OF THE GROUND! ABORT! ABORT!
Oh, Pileated Snagret, you troll.
Snagrets of any variety are pretty much automatic potion targets for me. Probably one of my least-favorite bosses.
But I think my favorite boss is the Toady Bloyster. That one's fun to trick out.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaSnagrets are bastards. So many I have lost to them...
I don't have trouble with regular Snagrets but the Pileated one is a pain always.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Snagrets, I hate Snagrets.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.I did something I never expected I could do today.
I completed the Submerged Castle with all treasures in one run. But was fast enough that the Waterwraith never got to appear on floors 1-4. Usually getting all treasures and avoiding the Waterwraith are mutually exclusive for me. I either get 1 or 2 treasures per floor or get all 3 but suffer for it.
I did lose one Pikmin who got stuck on an electrical node, though. Just one, though. And with 10 Bulbmin -> 10 Purples I technically made a profit.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Bulbmin are so cool.
I wish the game gave you some means of perpetuating their existence beyond going back into the murder dungeons.
Then you would never need any of the 4 elemental Pikmin types.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonIn all fairness, the only one they completely equal at their own game is Blues, unless you really really like the Blues' lifeguarding abilities.

Ah, that would change things if it's true. So then the ledges would just have to be slightly higher/farther.
Truth be told I liked those kinds of puzzles. Or throwing your Pikmin up onto a high ledge just fine, then needing to find an alternate captain's route up to the ledge to meet them. Like the geyser puzzle for the Libra in 1, or similarly the Shock Absorber.
