Make a better tumblr!

Deviant Art makes no sense... why is it always feet. Always, always feet.

Like, I don't judge, I'm just curious how did it happen so narrowly and specifically.

Feet get really dirty just by nature of being feet, never understood that fetish.

I have seen way weirder things then that though on deviantart. Oh the things I have seen.

Maybe this isn't a good question to ask, but given it's one of the main hotspots people are migrating to- what's Newgrounds like as far as, like, political-ness goes?

I'm sure it's all fine and dandy as a haven for artists of the lewd variety, but I'm having a hard time envisioning ship artists and the like finding a home there.

I am not sure. Newgrounds never really got involved with politics too much I think. Most people wrote it off as an old website that will die off eventually once Tumblr, Reddit, 4chan, and other well known social media sites came around.

Kind of ironic it may make a comeback. I think it might be more left but not entirely sure.

Want to know what I find even more hilarious about this?

Their announcement post talks about wanting to evolve with the culture and cultivate a new generation of individuals and creators and free thinkers... Ignoring that their website DID evolve a culture and generation of people who concluded against a lot of social taboos (nudity and discussing sex more frankly) and the website reflected that. Meaning they're essentially devolving their community and generation from the evolution they already made.

"Yeah! Be free thinkers and individuals!" "Wait, no, not like that."

Yeah, Newgrounds for the most part predated social media as a widespread concept, so it doesn't have those functionalities.

For the better, to be honest.

I'll confess to not being surprised by this news (was beginning to think the current purges were leading up to something like this), but I'm not happy about it, either.

I'm going to be looking through my blogs and backing up stuff. What a thing to wake up to.

Tumblr can't be more direct in saying "Yeah, the nsfw has to go in order to save our asses. Tough Shit!"

Deviantart: We'll host oodles of pictures of giantess beef women, weirdass transformation stuff, extreme end bimbofication, and vore, but a PENIS!? IN A VAGINA!? BAN HIM BAN HIM BAN HIM...

The worst part are the people who go out of the way to look for lewds of their waifus and then flag the artist for SEXUALIZING MUH WAIFU

I see talk of backing up stuff from one's watchlist. Does that there's a practical method for bulk backups? Because I've 70+ accounts that I'm following with hundreds or even thousands of posts under each one, and I have no illusions about my ability to manually sift through each one and save each art post.

Here. Apparently it gets everything.

Artstation is more an artist website. I have seen a lot of freelance, concept artists, and professional artists there but I am not entirely if it'll get new traffic.

Never heard of gumroad.

Here's the thing, though- whatever bot they're using to do the flagging isn't even kind of working right. It just seems to flagging things completely at random.

So... I don't really see them actually going through with this, as things stand.

... Except that only works for backing up your account's blog, not that of another account.

If you want to download content from your blog or others I recomed Tumblthree.

In that program you enter the address of the blog you want to back up, select which type of posts to download (it can even get imgur or webm links to external sites), if you want only uploads from the blog or everything they reblogged, filter by tags, where to save and then you just let it crawl.

It saved my 260+ gb blog in about two days.

Unfortunately it doesn't sort any content saved (and you want to leave the folder alone until the 17th in case new media gets posted, so it doesn't re-download content already saved).

I'm currently making backups of various artists, excluding their reblogs Unfortunately many people add download links, pics or edits through reblogs after posting a preview (it was a widespread attempt to get around tumblr censorship or to generate interest in early access Patreons).

The problem is people were already protesting this before when they started small.

But instead of listening they just decided to double down on it and deliver an message about it that's horribly out of touch.

Even if they go back on it now the damage has been done.

Apparently Tumblr's stock has taken a 40% hit. Can somebody find a financial article on the subject? I don't hang out in those areas; I just saw this as a comment somewhere, and I'd like it confirmed (or disproven, whichever).

So realistically what's going to happen to tumblr? I know it's probably too soon to tell, but will this mass exodus actually cause them to take a serious financial hit, or are people just running around like the sky is falling for no reason?

It's not just the artists that are going to leave Tumblr: In two weeks all the content left on Tumblr will be accessible without an account, so anyone who registered because of mandatory safe mode will go "Bye, say hi to Betamax for me."

Edit: By the way, we so need a "Tumblr goes Betamax" headline on some news site.

And they still haven't done jack about the actual pornbots, while Tumblrs been so incompetent at flagging content they've flagged their own posts.

Three, three pornbot tumblrs followed me today again. And I had to block them again.
