Secret Signature._. 4chan back at it again
I haven't seen much gore, but I swear every other post on my dashboard is something pertaining to this new "Pokemon Go" game. I'm not a Pokemon fan so I don't know much about it, only that the Pokemon are showing up in the worst places (Holocaust museum, a police station etc.).
I visited 4chan once... I plan on never going back. (Heh, you still have my quote as a sig. )
Ya, I'm weird like that...Pokemon Go is a game for ios and android where you walk around in real life to find pokemon. The whole google-maps-based go-outside game part of the gameplay, and all the locations you can get items from, are lifted straight from Niantic's earlier game Ingress, but this one appeals to an existing fandom so it really took off. It's free to play, and is helping millions of people exercise
But again I'm not a Pokemon fan, so I'm not interested in it. I just noticed that there is a lot of posts about it.
Ya, I'm weird like that...I still remember the day it was just a Google Maps thing!
So there are rumors about Tumblr being shut down soon because of an article mentioning that it's being written off for being a net loss for Yahoo. Any legitimacy to this or is it just people flipping their shit as usual, like the 12-hour panic over the hoax of Paypal being run by sex-negative Puritans trying to entrap porn artists?
Oops, guess I shouldn't have hot-linked so many images from there if that's the case...
Hopefully it's just mass hysteria.
Ya, I'm weird like that...I don't think they are at all.
It is deeply, deeply unlikely Tumblr will get shut down. Worst (best?) case scenario is that it just gets sold to someone else, its ad value may have been stupidly overestimated but it's still much too valuable to just destroy. Yahoo has been rumored to be looking to sell itself to a financial partner for quite some time too, their current CEO really doesn't have the best reputation.
...this is news to me but I'd very much pay to see a movie version.
Verizon just bought Yahoo, and since Tumblr is a constant money-loss with no real path to monetization, we should all back up our blogs now just in case.. XD Itβll be finalized in early 2017, but always best to be prepared!

The Protomen enhanced my life.I'm sure they will keep Tumblr, maybe keep with the annoying ads though. That the sounds shows up with even on ad block, stop doom saying.
I guess we'll have to wait and see, but back things up just in case. XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.I wouldn't quite call it doomsaying. Tumblr fills a very unique but self-destructive niche. They can't really advertise, and when they try to the users revolt. their format literally has no room for ads, as shown by them resorting to things like loading invisible video ads in the sidebar, and what ads exist that are accepted are things like the Denny's tumblr that Tumblr as a business gets no compensation for.
And, honestly? Regardless of what happens, doomsaying or not, it's better safe than sorry, non? People will always think 'it won't happen to me', and then, one day, it happens and you're caught flat-footed.
Tumblr feels like it still has a place in the world that no other site can offer. They just need to improve on areas, like implementing an easier way to search your past posts. I know of some people who fashion their entire personal sites through Tumblr!
What Tumblr needs is a staff that honestly gives a shit about running the website. It's been awhile, but I remember reading a review on some site that talks about people's experiences with jobs and what I read about tumblr's wasn't that flattering, though it would explain some of the problems the site suffers from.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013The only ads I see on there I like. It's weird.
Well this was conspicuously timed, if nothing else.
"Coming soon: Money from your Tumblr"
"On Thursday, weβre going to introduce ads on Tumblrs, so that later this year people can start making money from their blogs.
Tumblr is a place where brilliant, creative, funny, impossible people shape culture. Some of you have even turned your passions into jobs: book deals, music careers, paid gigs with the Creatrs program. Now, (soon!) that opportunity will be available to any eligible Tumblrβpoet, musician, fan artist, and misfit weirdo memelord alike.
Some things youβre probably wondering:
Do you have to? Good question. No, you can turn off on-blog advertising in settings if youβre not comfortable with it.
When? Who? How? How much? Also good questions! Weβre still working out the details of the partner program but as soon as we have details to share, weβll make announcements right here on trusty Staff. Just so you know: You wonβt be able to make money until you register for the programβwhich is coming soon."
I fear this would bring out all the problems people have with Youtube only to Tumblr too.
As long as there's no youtube red analogue, it'll be fine.
Seems like there are people spamming gore now.
