I never said I liked the entire genre, I just like Burial.

@_@

And Crystal Castles? Those guys who play what sounds like bad video game music? No thank you.

Yeahp, that sounds like Crystal Castles. I'm not sure why, but they've caught my fancy. I should kill myself.

I've never understood the appeal of the VGM-revival genres, if you like VGM why not just listen to VGM....?

Anyway, yes Burial. Awesome, and I will now explore this subgenre (or sub-subgenre? It doesn't sound related to Dub at all, but I've learned to not let that fool me) further.

I've heard Untrue. Average production with annoying vocals. It makes me sad and make me prematurely dislike dubstep, before I explored a bit more and determined that I didn't like dubstep much anyway. The intial "ooooh" factor of a WOPWOPWOP fades away very quickly.

Although I just realized Bassnectar is considered dubstep, and I like Bassnectar. That's about as close as I've gotten, I'm afraid.

I like Untrue.

And that either the production was entirely open-mic'd (picking up background noises) or it was emulated very well.

I haven't heard his first album yet.

If Scorn is dubstep, and all dubstep music is pretty much the same, dubstep is pretty boring.

Is Scorn dubstep?[/dumbassery]

So out of boredom, I made a mix of all the songs from Burial's "Untrue".

Because I am a loon.

Serial Lurker- Just here to say- dubstep is noooot Whomp whomp mt eden, datsik rubbish on the whole, that is the stuff picked up and listened to by hipster idiots (no offence) and is no way related to the original sound in Croydon 02 time.

Burial is amazing although not to everyone's taste- I suggest if you don't like him, listen to Untrue walking home at 2AM in the rain.

http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=167366 link contains (swearing) and class class stuff, vex'd dmz, pinch, skream, benga etc. P Lug in a sub!

Huytluty, I'm pretty sure this is an English only forum. Try using real words.

Huy is proclaiming his dislike for Mt. Eden, because he is apparently unable to fathom differences in taste.

Right, let's try again. I shall attempt to be more lucid this time I apologise for seemingly wanting to disregard taste and tell you what you should like, it's up to you what you choose to like and not like.

I love dubstep and have watched it's development from a tiny little underground movement in Croydon in 20002 to become this worldwide super-behemoth of music and it upsets me when people see only a tiny fraction of the scene and proclaim dislike for it.

As for Mt.Eden, I'm afraid there's no mercy for that guy because:

1. He has never, as far as I can tell, created an original work. All he does is take another's song, stick a halfstep on it and the most generic wobble possible

2. There are countless producers who are more talented and harder working than him yet he gets ridiculous levels of hype and recognition.

Dubstep really does cater to all tastes, something I've found, coming from UKG and Bassline there are people in the fandom who have previously liked anything from ambient to Metal.

Metal-like- Vex'd, Distance, Reso, Bar 9, Rob Sparx, Late Skream, Kromestar, 16 Bitgrin

Hip-hop- Girl Unit, Kingdom, Joker, Starkey, Butterz, Virus Syndicate, P Money, Newham Generals (Last three are Grime)

Techno/Jungle- Peverelist, Pangaea, Ramadanman, Appleblim, 2562

Pop- Magnetic Man, Rusko, Katy B, Benga, Nero, Darkstar

UKG/Bass Music/Dub Reggae- Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Pinch, Toasty, early Skream, Kode 9

Ambient- Burial, Shackleton, James Blake, Mount Kimbie

Dance- Zomby, Martyn, Chef, Noisa

Honourable Mentions go to Untold, Joe, Youngsta, Kryptic Minds, Butterz, Caspa, Jakes and Breakage

If you've read this far then I love you. Actually listen to any of them and I'll have your children.

Nobody's mentioned Scuba or 2562 yet, although I imagine the whole Basic Channel and Pole influenced side of things is a very small sub-scene anyhow. I've also heard that there's quite a few Texan dubstep producers, although I can never find out anything about them.

Maybe I should just try harder.

Fair enough. I'll admit I'm a complete noob to the genre, but I like what little of Mt. Eden I've heard so far, a good remixer is one who reimagines the song, naknak.

From my experience, dubstep is an genre full of crap with a few gold nuggets shining around.

I like Nero (their song Innoncence anyway), Kode9 + the Spaceape, Bassnectar...and it ends there.

Any suggestions based on what I mentioned? inb4 Burial, he's mediocre to me.

^^Well Mt.Eden must be doing something right if so many people like him but for the life of me I can't see what it is

^^^Scuba! I knew I'd forgotten someone important. If you like him I suggest the techno influenced crew-Pangaea, Appleblim, Peverelist. Texan producers: Parson, Lemiwinks, Tyrant, Innerlign, Sloppy Jackson, Chi , Chango, Squid, Skint

^You like Kode 9 you say? Is it the beats you like or Spaceape's M Cing? I reccomend— Pinch, Digital Mystikz, Sub Version, Loefah, King Soly, Early Skream and especially The Bug

Similar MCs to Spaceape include Flowdan and Sergeant Pokes grin

Dubstep's gotten quite popular here in the Bay Area, but the more intricate aspects of it have yet to catch on, so what you get is all the jocks at my school listening to the most generic, annoying brostep they can find and thinking they're part of some new underground movement.

I definitely like aspects of the Rusko/Caspa/Doctor P sound, but I don't want to hear it blasting out of some Abercrombie-wearing douchebag's car.

Oh, and Huytluty, I'm relatively new to the genre, so your list was awesome! I already knew a good number of those artists, but the ones I hadn't heard of sound good so far.

Also, to throw my two cents in on Mt. Eden: I liked him until I heard his remix of Burial. Seriously? Adding the most generic wobble you can find constitutes a remix?

Waitwaitwait.

Since when has Radiohead been hipster music?

Coming from a Crystal Castles fan?

O_o

I am deeply weirded out. Hipsters like kitsch, not heartfelt. That's kinda the point of them. I thought, anyway.

Also not on board with the hipster-hate. Knew a hipster. He was really awesome. He gave me free things of various kinds, without any ulterior motive.
