Yeah it's very " We live in a society " levels of genius.

I get that it's supposed to be an evil version of the Phantom Thieves and how they steal hearts of corrupt adults to change society but for a guy supposedly so smart and meticulous, this is a dumb plan.

Off the top of my head there are so many things that could go wrong: 1, something like this only really stays in the news cycle for the first 2 days or so, and then gets replaced by his second in command who then takes away all the media attention, 2, won't this also expose Akechi and ruin the fame he made? Plus the whole metaverse? Since his plan hinges on revealing he's the bastard son of Shido and he committed the murders in Shido's name, screwing himself over in the process of getting revenge. He can't expose Shido without exposing himself. 3: This might not actually work since you know, Shido has a shit ton of spin doctors and wealthy people who will protect his status, and ensure only Akechi has the fallout.

Oh yeah, and the most important detail: How will this actually hurt society in the long run? Japan's a democracy, shitty leaders come and go, and a new one will take Shido's place in the event he gets impeached as mentioned earlier, and becomes yesterday's news.

Even Shinzo Abe’s party is distancing itself from the far right Cult that lead to the man’s assassination by the son of a mother who was scammed by them, precisely because of how this happened.

Right, because of the whole family piety part of their culture, Akechi revealing himself to be a bastard would seriously destroy Shido's career.

But Shido has plenty of ways to counter that, and while there will be impact since as you mentioned with the case, it certainly won't have the far reaching consequences Akechi thinks it will have on society.

Oh I’m not saying it wouldn’t have ways to mitigate it. Just that if it got out it would be more of a scandal, but unlikely to threaten Shidos position unless Akechi became violent in the open.

To the point about Akechi damaging his own career, I think he was fully aware of that but was willing to ruin his own life to take down Shido anyway.

I'm not sure if it's something that was mentioned in game, or just discussed on this thread of the main thread for the fifth game, but I think there was an implication that Akechi kinda didn't really care what happened to him. Possibly because he knew his fame was false (and maybe because he figured if he was revealed to be a bastard, he'd lose it all anyway).

Oh okay, I guess if it was a Taking You with Me type of plan, I guess it makes more sense but it's still dumb since it's more likely Akechi would screw himself over than Shido.

Just to clarify, I think Akechi is an evil bastard(In more ways than one.) and I don't forgive him at all. I think he's a fun baddie for Joker, and I did have fun with him as a party member in the OG. But he still did killed a shit ton of people knowingly for REVENGE!

And as you can see, I think he's a dumb fuck.

But from what I heard of his arc in Royal, I might like him more, I respect that he commits to being an evil bastard and still wants to save reality so he can die free.

Also he gets to openly be a jackass to the rest of the party, it's hilarious from the clips I saw.

I thought it was really annoying when the game tried to pull a " Oh he's actually redeemable and you should forgive him ". Granted he is still a dumb teen so there's some leniency but he should totally end up in jail.

He was a condescending jerk to Mikoto too. Burn him.

It was a 'All for Revenge' plan, Akechi probably didn't care what happened after he succeeded.

Honestly, Akechi would have been better off using the metaverse to influence Shido into hurting society by damaging the goverment with Shido under his control. Maybe pass some laws that damage the economy or something, then have Shido ruin himself on live TV to get the impeachment in disgrace he so wanted to inflict on dad. All without exposing himself.

But I guess Akechi maybe also wanted to go down too? It's been a while.

You'd think he'd just start whacking members of the conspiracy to get to Shido to, I dunno, confess and then off himself or something. Guess he crashed the plan going for the crazier option.

Akechi can mind control people into doing whatever he wants and off them in ways that can't be traced.

But in true super villain fashion, he wants to get revenge in the most contrived and drawn out manner so the heroes can stop him.

Gotta commit to the gimmick.

The man who killed him did so because of Shinzo and the parties close knit ties to the Moonies cult.

There's something off-putting about Inspector Zenkichi. He feels like an author self-insert, he doesn't mesh with the Phantom Thieves at all.

He honestly feels most like a hasty rewrite of Dojima to be an original character.

Even has the same back story of a wife getting hit by a fancy car and never home for his daughter.

Now I can finally play 4 Golden... though since it's coming out the day before the next Fire Emblem game, I'm probably not going to play it much at release.

Nice to have release date for all three games now!

I was originally planning on playing P 5 R as soon as it comes out, but I realized this week that's almost certainly not going to happen.

I had my gaming schedule all written down on a piece of paper and everything, but things just didn't work out.

I wouldn't mind playing those on my ps5, although only at a reasonable price.

Speaking of, will the P5 upgrade for Royal mainly be a coat of paint, or will there be unique addons? Or do we not know that yet.

I'd be surprised if they added anything else to Royal at this point (remember it's at least 6 years old at this point). So it's likely a bump in graphics and maybe 60 frames.

That's all the Persona announcements, by the way. It's a little ridiculous Atlus hyped up a year event for international fans, only for most of it to be Japan-exclusive merch with the Arena, 3, 4, and Royal ports being anything substantial.

One of the "big announcements" was fucking mouthwash. That's not even leaving Japan.

Seriously, not even a tease for Persona 6 or a P5 Arena or anything actually new?

What a waste of time

i'm honestly baffled at their decision not to even announce anything. they had so much hype going into it, and then did.... nothing with it.

people are clamoring for content, and we didn't so much of get an announcement of a spin-off.

Mm, have to say I was expecting much more.
