So I finally played that "one mission" The fuck off annoying one where random SAM sites start popping up out of nowhere to do long-range missile volleys at the cargo craft. Made even more annoying by enemy fighters and the boss fight. Seriously, fuck the super drone and fuck that level.
Who watches the watchmen?
Balmug I think that's because you're super-human or something, because aiming with the machinegun in this game somehow feels far more difficult than I remember it being in AC 6. Bad enough to the point where my campaign stats would probably still show my MG kills being in the double digits, whereas my missile and special weapon kills are probably close to a thousand.
But yeah, that tip about following the missile contrails is solid. Helps too that the missiles don't randomly spawn; they're all in pre-set locations, and that Gripen squadron doesn't appear until you destroy a certain amount of them.
Gun is not difficult, honestly.
Has anyone taken a moment to appreciate just how incredibly fast tanks and ships are in Ace Combat? I've seen Erusean tanks doing about 180 knots and warships easily setting speed records. Just what the hell is in Strangereal's fuel?
EDIT: Dear god I love EML in MP. It's sickeningly powerful, but since I don't actually have any of the massively powerful MP parts and I'm a decent shot, it does wonders at helping me actually pull out wins.

Speaking of multiplayer, I'm beginning to notice that the F-16 is oddly powerful for its tier. I recently managed to out match the F-22 and Su-47 in TDM, and in another Battle Royale match somehow managed to come in 1st place with that jet.
In terms of stats, it doesn't stall easily, you can put a ton of expensive upgrades in it due to being the cheapest aircraft to field, and those special flak missiles it fires are unusually effective at finishing off crippled targets. It's not without downsides though - you don't have much in the way of hit points, your top speed is merely average, and the other special weapon, the 4AAM, kinda sucks.
Wish the multiplayer had taken a lesson or two from Ace Combat: Infinity. Having a PvE mode where two teams compete to kill more AI targets than the other would've been neat. Or maybe a mode that gave more of a reason to use the Attack and Multi-role aircraft, say one that gives both teams a fortified base on the map that must be destroyed/defended.
That, and heavily restrict the gear used in multiplayer, because being chased around by missiles that can somehow loop around back towards me THREE TIMES IN A ROW makes it damn near impossible to dogfight.
Well, I'm up to White Bird (Part 2) now. Damn, do the black paint jobs look really nice on the high-end and specialized planes, even for a PS 2 game.
I'm also a bad person, when Chopper died my first thought was "Damn, it should have been Edge instead."
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I resent Edge for all her whining, but mostly for getting shot down in the most moronic way possible and then making the rest of us do White Noise.
At least Grimm is mostly just meh, and Swordsman is cool enough I suppose.
I mean, with Steve Blum out of the plot, my favorite character is the dog now.
