This troop seems to be describing two different things

The first is the Dead Unicorn Trope that society view a woman who is raped as no longer pure and those ruined for marriage and should be punished. While in truth the opinion about Rape seemed to vary between we must punish the perpetrator, to its not a big deal just ignore it. (Of course there is quite a bit of Values Dissonance with the punishment considering that forcing the rapist to marry her and take care of her if he was single was a popular choice. This was supposed to be punishment for the man not the woman.) The evidence sited for this perspective seems to be mainly present in trashy romance tails and satire.

The other is that rape or attempted rape is so traumatizing it is imposable for the victim to move on after it and she considers herself ruined because she is either week or defiled.

These are two separate tropes and need to be shown as such.

I disagree that we could simply divide the existing trope that way.

Yes, there is a huge difference between using a religious/traditions or a psychological justification, but both can be used as justifications for reaching the more or less same conclusions. More importantly, many examples use neither justification - or a mix of both.

(By the way, the first option can surely be regarded as a dead horse, but hardly dead unicorn!)

Also, many of the scientists debating this subject claims that the two justifications actually ARE the same thing. The reason for WHY the women are expected to be psychologically traumatized for life is ultimately the same old idea that a woman's honor and soul is between her legs. I have not made up my mind about to what extent I agree with this theory or not, but it's certainly an interesting way of looking at it.

However, your thoughts are interesting and have inspired me to start another trope, related to this one, that I ought to have started a long time ago. Manufacturing Victims is now up at YKTTW, I should have started it a long time ago. Oh, and I really recommend the book!

While not viable for a split of this trope, I do agree that the difference in perspectives you mention is worth highlighting, and the new trope will among other things fill this purpose.
