Speaking of Masters, for X and Y, who is the protagonist there?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Huh, last I played, I could have sworn it was Calen since he has the hat.
And mentions AZ.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Yeah, the recent event this past week finally decided to clear up the ambiguity, specifically by having Calem be hung up on never beating Serena until the event's climax.
SoundCloudGuess the optics might be bad if it was the other way around?
Ehh whatever.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Honestly, either way it still felt pretty mean in X and Y that you essentially just bullied your rival into a tired, depressed resignation about how they'll never beat you.
And then the trend just got worse in Moon and then Ultra Moon.
And then thereβs poor Hop.
Honestly, itβs a relief that Nemona just loves fighting in general that losing only excites her more.

I never finished SM because I couldn't beat Kukui so I dunno how things play out with Hau, but honestly I never felt like I was bullying any of the rivals. Even with Hop. I guess it's a good thing that XY, SM/USUM, and SWSH are able to make you feel bad for the rivals but as much as I like them (They're not my favorites, but I like friendly rivals.) I never felt bad for beating them constantly. Maybe I'm just an asshole though.
I have to wonder if dungeons will make a return to the franchise now that they shifted to an open world format. Mostly because I feel like it eroded the last bastion of potential post game content there is and because the idea is at odds.
I ask while being aware that SV had a single dungeon as its endgame
Okay funny questionβ¦. If Pokemon that Mega Evolved could use Eviolite, how would it affect the competitive scene?

Check out Rogues Gallery Transplant: The GameEviolite Tyranitar and Salamence sound super balanced. As well as the legends.
Eviolite Garchomp eats ice cream without fear.
Secret SignatureWait, Garchomp needs a gimmicky Rattata partner to eat ice cream?
They both have their hats. Calem's the rival and Serena's the "canon" protagonist, though.
Red, Ethan, Brendan, Dawn, Hilbert, Rosa, Serena, and Gloria are treated as the canon protagonists over their opposite-sex counterparts, while Elio and Selene continue to be inscrutable.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Does anyone have a preference in player characters when there's more than one given? For me, I tend to prefer the one whose design I like more. So my preferences would be:
Ethan, Brendan, Lucas, Hilda, Nate, Elaine, Gloria.
For Gen 1, nostalgia may be coloring my preferences. For Gen 6, I'd probably have gone with Serena if I'd been exposed to her prior to her exposure in the anime. For Gen 7, it's really close between Elio and Selene. Hisui and Gen 9 it doesn't really matter.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI mostly just use the protags as a self-insert, therefore I always choose the guy, give him my real name, and if possible customize him to look like me.
The one exception was Legends, where given the whole time-travel thing I thought, "eh, why not go with Akari this time?"

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonLet's see (counting remakes as part of the gen they are remakes of)
- Gen 1: Red, Elaine
- Gen 2: Lyra
- Gen 3: May
- Gen 4: Dawn
- Gen 5: Rosa and Hilbert
- Gen 6:
ShaunaSerena - Gen 7: Elio, Selene for the Ultra Games
- Gen 8: Gloria, Akari
- Gen 9: Juliana
Most of them boil down to the design, any anime incarnations, a general preference for Girlish Pigtails and my Cross Player tendenciesnote (fun fact I stuck with the female P Cs since XY and picked Lyra for HG). I don't really do the self insert thing.

I generally prefer the female trainer designs, but not always.
- Gen 1 Remakes: Red
- Gen 2 Crystal: Actually tied, I'd say I like Ethan and Kris' designs about equally.
- Gen 2 Remakes: Ethan
- Gen 3: Weird answer but... May if its Ruby/Sapphire and ORAS, Brendon for Emerald.
- Gen 4: Dawn
- Gen 5: Never played, but just looking at them, female for both. (Hilbert in 1 is close, though)
We start getting into games with some customization now, but going off the base designs...
- Gen 6: Serena
- Gen 7: Elio (Although, this is the first time I'm finding out his "canon" name lol)
- Gen 8: Never played. Um... About equal, I'd say.
x5
I mostly self-insert as the male protagonist but outside of that and skipping RGBY because it only has one protagonist....
- GSC: Kris
- RSE: May
- FRLG: Leaf
- DPPt: Dawn
- HGSS: Ethan
- BW: Hilda (Honestly I'd say they're equal, but I like Hilda slightly more.)
- B2W2: Rosa (Both designs suck but Rosa sucks less.)
- XY: Serena (Like Hilda and Hilbert she and Calem are equal, I just like Serena's design slightly more.)
- ORAS: May
- SM: Elio = Selene (They're both bad designs.)
- USUM: Selene
- LGPE: Elaine
- SWSH: Gloria
- BDSP: Dawn
- LA: Akari = Rei (They're both good designs.)
- SV: Florian = Juliana (These are the same person.)
That's not to say that the ones where I don't list them as equals means the other character is badly designed, it just means I like the other design more. Well, except for ORAS where Brendan sucks compared to his RSE design (So does May but less so.), DP/BDSP where Lucas's design sucks (His Platinum design is way better than his DP/BDSP one.), and USUM where Elio looks more childish and goofier than he does in SM while Selen got cuter.

Eviolite Mewtwo scares me.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Either a ban on Evolite OR a ban on Megas besides Beedril and Pidgiot.
Eviolite is an item intended to let little Timmy emulate Ash when playing through BW and not have his Oshawott utterly trounced by the game. Turns out, it ended up making defensive 'mons better than their cross-gen evolutions.
In my opinion, it is a bad concept.
I don't know enough about competitive; Does Eviolite on a Scyther work well?
Eviolite Scyther is bulky as hell.
I've been thinking about the plot of SM a bit, and maybe come to a realization that the whole game seems to put maybe too much emphasis on Lillie. It might seem like a weird thing to think about, but in comparison to other games' plots, the game really has Lillie be the Non P.O.V. Protagonist of most of the game, while most of the stuff not about her being not that memorable (I honestly cannot remember much of anything about Hau for example). I think part of it comes to how Masters treats the protagonists of each game; while rest of the games seem to have a definite protagonist, I really have no clue between Selene or Elliot being the protagonists. Doesn't help that they have hardly gotten that much spotlight after their introductions into the game.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!
