Pokémon General Thread

Yeah, that's pretty much it, major versus minor.

Last time we talked about the Ice type, as well as some abilities generally, I had asked about what if there was a Flame Body/Static/Poison Point, equivalent for Freeze, and it seems the reaction was positive, given Freeze is the only status condition out of Freeze, Burn, Poison, and Paralysis, that has a chance to end itself. I'm now wondering what kind of Pokemon would have that ability. Something made of ice like Cryogonal, sure. Maybe Ice/Steel types. Or something that radiates cold?

That does sound cool! I would love more ice moves/abilities in general. I still think that blaze kick (burn) should have a frost kick (freeze) and thunder kick (paralysis) version, like the elemental punches.

Yeah, I assumed that when Attract was brought up, it was as a secondary layer of Parahax to keep the opponent from moving on top of Paralyze.

Type: Null:

I had a dream where the next fighter added to Smash was the Pokemon Caterpie, and JUST Caterpie.

We got the Piranha Plant, anything could happen.

I mean, Caterpie without Weedle is how Game Freak rolls nowadays; Mega Beedrill was the last we saw of the line.

I think Weedle is superior to Caterpie. But that might be because I have a weakness for things with big, red clown noses.

If it wasn’t for Metapod being a great meme in general, the Weedle line would be vastly superior in my mind.

I've always wondered why weedle wasn't included in pokemon yellow given that it had several nods to the anime and beedrills chasing our heroes (and team rocket) happened frequently enough.

Ash failed to catch Weedle.

But he did see one, so to have yellows version of viridian forest be show accurate, weedle, pidgeotto, and caterpie should all be encounterable.

Yellow is only vaguely accurate to the anime, anyway. Or else it would have featured a talking Meowth.

• I considered every Pokemon.
• Popularity matters up to a point.
• Pokken had no restrictions.
• The first game's roster was wild, so so will this one be.

Alright 24/25 characters. What's the other gimmick.

• Some Pokemon for arcade and story modes get trainers from the games that best fit them while some of them get their own OG characters.

• Alright fair. Who's the roster.

5 Returning Characters (Really? He's really going all out for the newcomers)

• Pikachu/OC Trainer: But combine the moveset of original and Libre. He wants Pika and Lucario to be OG trainers since they're the two stars of the game.
• Charzard/Leon: Fair
• Lucario/OC Trainer (I would've given Korrina it)
• Garchomp/Cynthia: Mostly to show the diverse way of the 2D/3D shift (And yeah, Cynthia is dope, I'm with it)
• Machamp/Bea: He says it gave Machamp much needed time in the spotlight. (I thought the trainer was going to be )

The Newcomers

• 6: Greninja/OG Trainer: Mostly because of popularity and is too popular to have a trainer from the games. (But he doesn't know why it's the most popular Pokemon in the world. Guess he doesn't watch the anime)
• 7: Inceineroar/Professor Kukui: Wrestler gimmick
• 8: Kangaskhan/OG Trainer: Wanted a Normal (this one) and Rock type in the game since they were the only types not in the first, and thinks it wasn't popular enough, plus the Synergy would allow Mega Evolution for the baby to come out. (I like the idea, but I feel like kanga is popular in competitive VGC, though it's like the least popular of the most popular someone described)
• 9: Lycanroc Midnight Form/Olivia: Wanted a Normal and Rock (this one) in the game since they wren't in the first, and makes the most sense out of the forms. (I'm with it, did Gladion own one in the games?)
• 10: Mimikyu/OG Trainer: His reasoning is hilarious for the latter, but I'm down with it. (I would've went with Acerola or Allister)
• 11: Silveon/OG Trainer: Yeah we got away with Suicune. (He didn't pick Valerie because Slyveon's too cute, and Vlaerie's bug eyes are too creepy, which I think is ironic since Slyveon's like lowkey messed up according to Pokedex)
• 12 & 13: Urushifu, both forms, like Mewtwo and Shadow Mewtwo/Mustard and no Trainer. Rapid is in the base game, Single Strike is the 25th fighter you have to unlock.
• 14: Zerorora: Wants another electric types that's not Pikachu and works like a hard rushdown.
• 15: Rillaboom: Feels like they need a Grass fully evovled starter, and thought Inteleon and Cinderace got more attention.
• 16: Scorbunny/Hop: Wants an unevolved starter...not the only one, and an opportunity for Hop to challenge his brother in arcade mode. (I like the idea)
• 17: Metagross/Steven Stone
• 18: Vesiqueen/OG Trainer: Wants a zoner like H Ilda from Under Night in Birth. (He didn't know Aaron was a bug trainer despite them having the same name and found them so forgetting, he said screw it, original trainer lol)
• 19: Nidoqueen/Giovanni: So close to being a icon in Gen 1, and fighting style would complement Giovanni.
• 20: Obstagoon/Piers: reckless fighters.
• 21: Froslass/Glacia: Ice and Ghost type would make unique combo moves, counters that freeze the opponent after phasing through them. (Unique idea)
• 22: Leaf/Ivysaur: Similar to Braxien being popular, wanted the face of the middle starters to be it for the game, more moves than Bulbasaur and faster than Vensaur without having too big of a hitbox (And he wants Leaf to actually get some representation compared to Red and Blue)
• 23: Noviern/Zienna: promarily a fighting type, doesn't want the other dragons to be the only ones in the game.
• 24: Zacian/Sonia
• 25: Big Bad: DEOXYS!? interesting. And can go through all four stances that changes their stats depending on the field phase also factor.

Hop vs Leon, Bea vs Mustard, Zienna vs Deoxys, Leaf vs Giovanni, Steven vs Cynthia

DLC:

• Ferrraligator/Silver: Wanted a Johto rep
• Garbodor/Oliana: unique
• Haxorous/Iris:

Deoxys in Pokken would be sick as fuck. You missed Zoroark/N at the end, there.

I think he focused too much on the recent 'mons, didn't include any Gen 2 or Gen 5 'mons until DLC. He should have included which Generation the Pokemon's from in his breakdown. That said, I like a lot of his ideas, and I LOVE the idea of having trainers from the main series be next to each one of their Pokemon. Personally, I think in order to have a base roster of 25, they'd have to keep at least half of the roster from the previous game.

Some Gen 2 Pokemon that would be good:

• Bring back Scizor with Bugsy as the trainer

• Miltank with Whitney

• Let's get crazy: Steelix as a playable fighter with Jasmine as the Trainer

• Kingdra with Clair

• Houndoom with Karen

Some Gen 5 Pokemon:

• Simisage with Cilan

• Leavanny with Burgh

• Excadrill with Clay

• Beartic with Brycen

• Bring back Chandelure with Shantal as the trainer

• Bisharp with Grimsley

• Volcarona with Alder

• Hydreigon with Ghetsis

That's incredibly underwhelming. Seriously just a guy.

It could've been unsettlingly silent. It could've been some mix between Godzilla's roar and Eren's titan scream. It could've sounded animalistic in some way.

Instead, it sounds like a grown man sounding like a crying baby when something doesn't go his way. You know, like a POC or a woman did something of value in a work of fiction, or their "team" lost an election or a playoff game.

And yet nobody brings up Ditto, I want to move his OC for Mimikyu to Ditto.

I would like to suggest Meloetta first and foremost. A normal type, that can stance change between zoner and battle dancer.

Also Marrowack alolan form. Ghost-type weapon user and there is no Alolan variant respective.

Genosect, who I would have picked for the Big Bad paired with Ghetsis.

Dodrio, I got to pitch one less serious one. Bid goofy bird glass canon.

With Pokken, the fewer cuts, the better. If it's not in a new engine, just have the entire previous roster. If it is, reuse as much of the old game as possible anyway. Fighting games live and die on roster appeal.

There's no really bad suggestions here, otherwise. Bisharp, Midnight Lycanroc, Lurantis and Mienshao would be my top picks, I suppose.
