I don't see how the new Pokemon could be related to Giratina at all. They're both have gold and grey, but that's not much of a connection.

I'm still not entirely convinced it's real.

I'm all for esoteric Pokemon but this thing looks awful. Unless it's got something wild going on in its animations otherwise or an alternate form it can shift into it's probably the least appealing mythical they've put out since the largely forgettable Megearna.

And that leaked Pokemon might not even be a mythical Pokemon. Magearna was confirmed as a mythical Pokemon before it's also revealed that it's a Gen 7 Pokemon.

Like I said over on blubagarden, I think it's a hoax and if I'm right then props to the leaker cause that's hella impressive.

Compared to most mythicals I just didn't see nearly as much love for Magearna. The first four are really popular, both Victini and Meloetta have their share of fans, but I haven't seen nearly as much fan art or fan reaction to Magearna, and I don't think it was marketed particularly heavily, either.

I like this datamined Pokemon's design. Very alien-like and weird and it looks cool like that.

Oh a leaked Mythical(?) Pokemon. Now I'll be "shocked" when it's officially revealed....

Not that I could get it anyways because of where I live. Not worth the plane tickets.

One of the reasons why the newer Mythicals are easy to miss too is because they don't fit with the lore of their regions and such or they are just released too late and finding little use.

I love Magearna for its typing and Soul Heart + Fleur Cannon are both cool.

I can actually see this little guy becoming something interesting, or having some interesting flavor or function- its body looking like Ditto and its head being a mechanical part (or whatever you'd call a nut) makes it seem like it would be able to change form, maybe by connecting with another Pokemon that looks like a wrench of a screw. Like maybe some normie Pokemon that it has a Phione-Manaphy/Carbink-Diancie type relation with. Or maybe it could combine with mechanical items like Rotom. Some sort of modularity.

This Pokemon's dex number (891) - the number after Zeraora (808) = the possible number of new Pokemon in the next region (83)

apparently these are popping up in asia in go. but turn into ditto or chikorita after and the dude in charge of go says its a tease.

Some people got Kecleon instead of #891. It's possible that it was supposed to be Kecleon for everyone but something went wrong, which supports the "placeholder" theory. Or perhaps Kecleon just got mixed up into it by accident and it was supposed to be #891. Or maybe the whole thing was a screwup. Europe/Africa just finished their Community Day and nothing happened there. STOP THE PRESSES ITS SHOWING UP HERE TOO.

I don't think it could be a placeholder, it has way too much effort put into it, complete with unique animations and cry. It's obvious Niantic screwed up badly by sticking this unreleased Pokemon on their servers where it wasn't supposed to be, and it's now randomly showing up for players despite the game being not being given enough info to handle it properly.

There’s more to it than that. It was tweeted by Niantic’s Marketing Lead, which they wouldn’t have done if it was unintentional. On top of that, it appeared for exactly 30 minutes after Chikorita's Community Day ended in Asia, then again when the European one ended; right when most players in those regions would be out playing. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times and something funny’s going on. If it happens again after America's CD it's definitely intentional.

Oh my, I actually thought you were joking about the new Pokémon started appearing in Go.

I have a hard time believing that a new Pokemon was stuck in a game without any prior warning, in place of where Kecleon's (a completely unrelated Pokemon) data should be, in a half-finished state that turns into random other Pokemon when you catch it. Saying that this was totally a planned teaser just sounds like damage control to me.

It's clearly supposed to turn into Ditto, but if you encountered it before it became #891, it'll turn back into whatever it was before; that's a glitch that makes sense, since the game saves your encounters (try using a berry then fleeing, when you return the berry is still in effect). It uses Kecleon's place in the data, presumably as a temporary programming shortcut (programmers are a lazy bunch), which made it appear as Kecleon in some cases before they sorted it out; again, that glitch makes sense. But it appearing for exactly 30 minutes immediately after the three hour CD window when lots of people are guaranteed to be playing, twice, with direct acknowledgement from Niantic, doesn't sound like a slip-up to me. If it was Niantic would have either apologized or, more likely, ignored it. I'd bet actual money that it'll happen again in eight hours, after the American Community Day ends.

I might be wrong about this since I don't play Pokemon GO, but from what I'm reading Kecleon wasn't even available in GO until this recent update hit. The dataminer was trying to find info on Kecleon that was newly added, but the new Pokemon was in its place. And apparently the new Pokemon are mostly getting replaced on the map by Kecleon recently, with many of those Kecleon glitched and turning into Ditto.

It sounds then to me like Niantic was planning to implement Kecleon into the game, and have an event right afterwards spawning tons of Kecleon for people catch it for the first time. But they somehow messed up and put this new Pokemon in Kecleon's place without some data needed for it to work properly so it defaults to a Ditto when caught. And now they're trying to fix this so Kecleon are appearing, but the Kecleon are now glitched and turning into Ditto.

Kecleon still isn't out. And Kecleon showing up during the second appearance of #891 after the EU CD was a vast minority again, so it looks like Kecleon showing up was the error. There isn't any data for Pokemon beyond Gen 3, so it seems likely they slotted #891's model into Kecelon's currently unused slot as a quick-and-dirty way to get it ingame that they can clean up after.

On top of that, during those 30 minutes any Meganium evolved learned Frenzy Plant, which was supposed to be impossible after CD ended, so they seem to be using the CD code to make #891 spawn; they just switched it over from Chikorita, which is the theme Pokemon today.
