Aosth and STC tried to be their own thing too. It is a pity that Archie couldn't after the troubles.

I honestly do think that Archie Sonic started to get really good around issue 160. It's a shame that it got cancelled before they resolved the storyline regarding Mecha Sally.

Some people think that Trip from Sonic Superstars is based on Dulcy.

That's a possibility.

I was reading some of the older Gag Series issues and cracked up at how funny the Swatbots are. Issue #4 has them putting what would become Universalamander in a huge cage cause he's big for his age, and another has two bots goofing off and one shows the other how he can do a shadow puppet of Robotnik and claims he can do a great one of a cow.

I never thought of him as a Sonic who fails all the time but that's exactly what he is.

A Sonic who fails being an evil Sonic has sone Fridge Brilliance.

Some elaboration is required.

Sonic is a hero by nature. A Sonic who is evil is therefore going against his nature and is destined to lose and lose hard.

Not really? Our Sonic is a hero by nature, but that doesn't mean other versions of him have to be.

I guess I look at it as a metacommentary on how Sonic can't work as a villain. But that's just me.

Ironically, the very first time I saw Sonic, he was the main villain in one of those old Mario fan games I played when I was 8.

So, how did everyone feel about the Fiona Fox arc? The arc where Tails had a crush on Fiona Fox, but Sonic ended up dating her?

Ooof, Fiona, Fiona, Fiona. Such a messy character. Such a complicated background, hard to explain to newcomers. Big problem is that new Flynn-given status quo was very contrived to work in but on the other hand, she was absolutely bland boring character who had no place in the story anywhere before she was reinvented.

Yeah, in the pre-reboot Archie, she was just that character who was there to be Sonic's girlfriend at the time and she didn't really have much characterization, other than being someone who put a damper on Sonic and Tails' friendship at the time. At least, during Flynn's run, she had some kind of characterization, no matter how controversial it was.

Fiona down right didn't had an identity. She was a Freedom Fighter, in theory, one of the main characters. But she joined when Sonic was in space and appeared on the team with zero fanfare. Despite being in few stories, she didn't seem to play any specific role or show any characteristic traits. when you could briefly see her in the first arc, she had medipack but if that was meant to be her thing, it didn't stuck. She could see once or twice working with Brain Trust but the very fact that Brain Trust exists (at it's top, it was Tails, Uncle Chuck, Rotor, Tommy and Snively) proves we don't need more smart guys. Honestly having Tails and Rotor at once already feels like too much.

Her complicated backstory with Sonic was never really brought up. Idea that after Sonic "died" she realises he wasn't so bad and decided to join in his honor is something readers have to figure out themselves. Fact that Tails used to know her robot copy is brought up but that only resulted in him having a crush on her (like we needed backstory for that). She was basically a new character whose only real role was Tails having a crush on her and Sonic hooking up with her as a rebound from Sally. Mina was already much better character as Sonic's temporary love interest and she was even someone readers might root for. Fiona x Sonic was obviously just something to keep Sonic busy until he patches things up with Sally. So she was just a source of temporary drama between Sonic and Tails. Pretty weak for a character and again, really really week for a Freedom Fighter.

I'm reading Penders' selfish issues under the Condemned by History article, and this guy basically makes me look better in comparison.

I do wonder that if the comic series wasn't rebooted, how do you guys think that the Metal Sally arc would have ended (barring the Archie Comics Online series)?
