Never actually watched Mighty Boosh but man I do remember being in school and everyone talking about it and quoting it non stop ,also this remix from ages ago
I recall Quintel's other series, Close Enough, actually had Noel Fielding guest star on one episode as a snail with a time traveling hat. Albeit the character design seems more reminiscent of Julian Barrett, with the mustache and the trilby.
Was looking up clips and I came across this pretty infamous one, seeing realistic looking weapons in a cartoon like this is pretty jarring
How they got this aired I'll never know and I'll assume Standards and Practises took the day off or ceased to exist just for this (Holloween) episode

New theme music also a boxAnd RS also had Rich Fulcher in a role.
Just a person. He/him.Oh shit, he was the answering machine guy from the butt dial episode, right?

Yup.
Just a person. He/him.Regular Show in general got away with a surprising amount of what it did. IIRC it even used the word “piss” at several points.
“Now! Let us engage in the art of deduction!”And I believe "crap" and "crappy" too.

Yeah,I noted that earlier in this thread,I was taken aback when Mordecai told Rigby "You pissed me off!
Those hardly register as swears to me

New theme music also a boxTo TV censors standards they are, i only remember this cartoon and Total Drama getting away with having it said
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Ren and Stimpy said "crap" a few times, ironically not during the Spumco years, but during the Games Animation era. Of course, even RS had to tone themselves down by the later seasons, earlier seasons had people getting killed, and not just during the Halloween special.
Total Drama got away with having a girl inadvertently flash another character, and then have other characters razz her about it. That surprised the heck out of me.
Might be due to age group its aimed or something,Total Drama Island is a show I've never even watched
New theme music also a boxI saw Total Drama when I was 10 and the flash scene really shook me.
Same with RS and all the graphic stuff it got away with
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."I think given it lasted eight seasons they more or less had protection from the censors for awhile,so they could get away with a lot
In general, one thing I've learnt over the years is that a lot of the outrage that comes with getting crap past the radar is actually manufactured by groups trying to make a bigger deal out of it then it actually is
Which actually a boon for the network because draws interested viewers in

New theme music also a boxRegular Show always had a vibe to it that it was more focused on its periphery demographic than on the target audience. Certainly I kind of relate to it more in my early-20's than I did when I was in high school watching it.
It's not just with the jokes and stuff either. Mordecai and Rigby aren't young characters the target audience can project themselves onto like Finn or Gumball, they're adults. Young and immature adults, but still adults. In a way, it reminds me of Rocko's Modern Life?
They may not be kid characters but I think the way they act (Rigby I'm looking at you) certainly could make one mistake them for being anything but adults, helps they're Funny Animals too
In a similar manner Spongebob and Patrick are both 'adults' but kids still relate to them and project on to them.

New theme music also a boxThe fact that they're non-human makes them easier to identify with, too. Which is why cartoons make characters non-human.
I did love how random all the characters were. High-Five Ghost, for instance. Or that Pops was essentially a sentient lollipop, and Benson an animated gumball machine.
The random characters remind of me Tuca & Bertie personally, both shows are very surreal
New theme music also a boxThat's true, but with Sponge Bob it's a little different. Him and Patrick are absolutely immature, but they don't deal with the kind of stuff Mordecai and Rigby do. They're static and remain static. Rigby has a whole arc about going back to high school and actually growing up and maturing, Mordecai gets a lot of focus toward his love life (too much focus at times). It's a bit more...I don't think "mature" is the best way to describe it, but it's different than what you'd see in Sponge Bob where there is never character development.
Like I said, it reminds me a lot of Rocko's Modern Life. That show had similar themes and arcs. Filburt had a whole arc where he eventually got married and had kids.
The whole point of Spongebob is that, even if he does have a job and lives by himself, he's essentially a kid. That's why they have him continually going to driving school, so they can work the whole "kid going to school" dynamic into a show where the lead is technically an adult. Mordecai and Rigby are, for most of the regular show, drifting young adults who aren't really sure what to do with themselves. They read mostly like teenagers without adult supervision. Didn't the show go for a long time before even telling the audience that Mordecai was an artist (they never even showed him drawing or anything), and had gone to art school for awhile?
In the case of both shows, if real character development actually happened, the show would kind of have to end, or radically reimagine itself. In the case of the regular show, it did end.

Until Season 4 and the episode that introduced the idea focused on him painting.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.paintings and drawing are very different!*
- though they're part of the same skillset,if you draw really well it really helps your painting but not every artist can do both,I could see why he took to painting over drawing though

I'd actually argue Skips is more based off Naboo the shaman than anything. Both characters are A: very old but don't really look it, B: have a mysterious past (though with Skips, it's played for drama) that involves a mysterious ruling council of sorts, C: usually has the solution to the episode's dilemma, and D: is very dry and deadpan.
Every other character in Regular Show completely lacks any direct analogue to a Boosh character (if you wanna stretch if, Mordecai KIND OF has some similarities to Howard, but it's mostly in that they're both pathetic and awful with women), but I think it's possible Quintel might have been basing Skips off Naboo than anything.
