Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".
Thanks for your understanding.

It has been reset.
Dump the networks! And I think I'm set now. Phew!
I originally wanted to be Love Machine (the knowledge-seeking AI from the Summer Wars movie, for which I'll happily add a works page once I recover the handle), but the first thing I did as a troper was messing up with the password/cookie system. Now this computer is hogging that handle for nothing, so please reset it.
By the way, shameful as it might sound, Noimporta's idea of having a pinned thread for these cases doesn't sound bad to me.
Yay!! It's the first time I actually recover a lost account XD Thank you!! The pinning idea was not mine, credit goes to Noimporta in another password-recovering thread.
Edit: Although I don't know how helpful it's gonna be to put this info here, here is what I collected from other such threads.
Say you are currently logged in and, for whatever reason, you need your password and can't quite remember it. You have several options, just make sure the cookies are still in the oven (they're kept there for like 9 months in you don't touch them... I wonder what happens next):
Tzetze pointed out you can put
javascript:alert(document.cookie);
into the address bar of your browser (assuming the current tab is on this site) and a system message will pop up telling you the contents of your handle's cookie.
Which is, of course, as Tangent128 said, the same as looking for the cookie yourself, like by (in Firefox) clicking Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Show cookies.
Both Tzetze and Anemotaxis also pointed out your password is -shown- (see note) at the password changer. (Note: It's supposed to be white letters on white background -hence the "highlight to read" message- but, if you (like me) chose not to have a white background to protect your eyes... Sadly, at least for me, it also appears repeated (full black on white) at the "New pass" field).
Also, I think this post is worth reading, it might be a Crowning Moment Of Funny for some (Duh, I wonder if the link will be rendered useless once there are enough posts to occupy several pages? I saw no "permanent link" feature like in the YKTTW page).

Well, looks like I've managed to completely forget the password I used as well. If you could reset Keredis, that would be great.
If I were to mention a bird as a hint, would that be just as good?
Dump the networks!Well, I'll be. So it is. Thanks very much!
I'll let natural selection run its course and if that fails then I'll fix it.No sweat. You should change it right now, of course.
Dump the networks!Hello, I used to be the Troper known as !, but I forgot my password . Could you please reset my account?
Edit: can't use the PW thingie on the log-in page, because I had to delete all my cookies to solve a persistent browser crashing problem...

"That said, as I've mentioned before, apart from the helmet, he's not exactly bad looking, if a bit...blood-drenched." - juancarlosIt's been reset. BTW, this is a better handle than that. Just sayin'.
Dump the networks!Oh, well, bye-bye to ! then, and welcome to The Stupid Exclamation Mark
I did not forget my password, but the system refuses to bake me a cookie. Could you reset the password without deleting my watchlist and stuff? This is Adam850.
If we can't put a cookie on your system, it won't do any good. Your watchlist is safe, though. We just have to figure how to put that cookie on.
In most browsers there is an option to allow a specific site to write cookies.
Dump the networks!I'm sorry, I am incorrect. I made a cookie for this username just fine. I looked and my browser accepts cookies. It's that my password wasn't working like normal (and is still not).

I've reset Adam850. Not sure why your cookie blew up.
Dump the networks!Thank you.
Hey, I used to Cpt Sqweky, but for some reason the password I would swear I was using doesn't work. Could I get some help, please?
There is no record of any account by that handle. You could just start it up.
Dump the networks!I've tried. Every time I do it says "That handle is already in use." Well... I just tried it without the space, so... nevermind.

Well, I was Radhreni until my laptop went boom, and I don't remember my password (and didn't get the list salvaged before the box died, either). Can I get a reset?
