This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

So I'm looking back at my edits and the last edit I made was to Contra Points video commenting on the Antifa attack on Andy Ngo, could that have anything to do with my ban?
~TotalDramaRox97: As has already been explained to you, this is now the second time you have been suspended for political agenda-based editing.
I hope you have a very good reason why we should extend one of our very rare third chances to you since it's clear that prior sanction hasn't actually modified your behaviour.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I'll make sure to check edit history in the future. I did check discussion, which is where I assumed I'd find something, but I'm not too frequent at editing so I have some stuff to learn still.
Wait I thought I was banned the first time due to edit warring. I've seen a lot of political based editing on this site such as the YMMV page for World War Zimmerman so I thought it was okay
Hello!
I've been using TV Tropes for however-many years now, and I've apparently been suspended from editing. I haven't had any messages (that I can see) explaining why I was suspended - my last message dates to 2018.
Does anyone know if this decision was made in error, and if not, what did I do wrong?
I apologise if any recent edits I made have been disruptive or broken the rules.
Also you said this was already explained, I received no notification, I was trying to edit a page and it told me I was blocked, I checked my inbox and saw nothing. Unless I misunderstood
It's been over a week with no response from a mod. I have stated my case in previous posts. I would very much appreciate hearing from a mod so I may continue participating in trope creation, with a better understanding of the rules. Thank you.
Hey I finally got those messages in my inbox. As I said before I didn't know my first one was for political based editing I thought it was for edit warring. Also as for my political content. If you're talking about my edit on the Gnomes YMMV page it was a misunderstanding of what's constitutes Values Resonance and what doesn't so I'm sorry I didn't know the difference. For the Contrapoints, that was a pretty big headline in quite a few media outlets I think even CNN covered it too so I was surprised to hear some people are saying the attack was staged. That was the first I heard of it
~Nerdy-Nonbinary, sorry, it looks like you were accidentally skipped over. You had rogue-launched Great Big Gay Metaphor from the Trope Launch Pad.
As stated in TLP Guidelines:
Do you have any further questions about the reasons for your suspension?
I have no further questions. I have read over TLP guidelines to ensure something like this won't happen again.
Good to hear. Your suspension has been released.
Hello, a while ago I was suspended for citing bad examples for tropes on the Mumkey Jones page. They did not properly explain why the tropes applied. One example came off as a really bad blog comment. And for a website based around story telling, this was pretty bad move on my part. I went over the rules regarding editing. If its not too late, I'd hope to have my suspension lifted. But I'd understand if that's not possible.

Hello. I was trying to add information to trivia page for Viva Pinata and a box popped up saying that my permissions have been suspended. I would like to know what happened and if I may have done something wrong.
I made it better! -Chowder~Linker 3: Per this ATT report, you're running a text replacement plugin. These are forbidden on the wiki due to the messes they cause; if you're going to continue to use it, you need to set it to not run on the wiki.
I'm sorry. I didn't realize that it affected the pages while editing. I have disabled it.
I made it better! -ChowderI can't post in any forum threads all because some member kept getting into an argument with me in one thread about whether or not The Return of Jafar is considered a cheapquel.
(... it is. It is though.)
How do I get myself unsuspended?
Edited by kyun on Jul 16th 2019 at 8:51:49 AM
You got warned because you were getting overly aggressive. After warning, you insisted that you be able to continue exactly as you had been. Then, when asked if you really wanted to continue, you said yes.
We agreed this was your last chance in 2017, after previous suspensions for going off on rants.
You are not getting unsuspended.
So I can't post in any threads, nor check my messages, nor edit any articles? It's almost like I can't even make any actions on this site forever, all because of a petty argument.
If it was a petty argument, why get so fired up about it? Why go off on the rants, despite knowing you had been in trouble for that before? Why insist that you were getting "censored" for a warning about going off the rails? Why say "yes!" when asked by a mod if you really wanted to continue on, despite warnings?
It isn't "it's almost like I can't even make any actions". That is exactly what it is, per the conditions we set on your previous release.
You can still read the wiki and the forums at this time. Further insistence that this was unwarranted will likely result in a complete site bounce.
~Linker 3 - Good deal; your suspension is released.
~Kyun: Does the handle flareGuy ring a bell? Just registered on one of your IP addresses? Is it going to be like that?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~zeister, I'm releasing your suspension. Please do make sure you're checking edit histories.
~randva, I'd need you to demonstrate an appropriate understanding of our rules for context and example indentation. Please rewrite these examples:
- Growing the Beard: Episode 3 of Mumkey's Anime Review.
- Jumping the Shark: Some would argue that the Anime Review finale was a turning point for the worse. Mumkey's views would say otherwise.
- Mumkey Stops A School Shooter.
~TotalDramaRox97, see, we are trying to follow a thing called the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment (ROCEJ). The mods last time around stated multiple times that political soapboxing is not what this wiki is for. And it's, frankly, a little difficult to believe that you aren't aware that many of your edits not only spend more time than necessary on political references, but insert political references where it's not called for at all.
This edit is a great example. Values Resonance is about values resonating across a significant period of time, or a cultural difference. Your edit went out of its way to shoehorn a political reference that meets neither requirement, and it clearly promotes a certain political perspective. Again, ROCEJ.
Multiple edits of yours had similar issues - you can see a quick rundown here.
I would tread very carefully in trying to persuade us that you are capable of editing without a political agenda. We are not inclined to believe you at this point.

For what it’s worth, I made it a point to stop talking about that stuff when it was clear people were getting annoyed with it. It was like “we get it, please stop” and at that point I raised my hand and went “fine, I will.” I want to stop the antagonizing, not continue it.
