Index a series like Kanon with both anime and a VN under both. After all, there's an anime, and there's a VN. derp

As for the official couple thing, the problem is that it's inaccurately used to note couples who pair up in canon. The thread itself is gone and I haven't seen it in months, but I think the consensus was that the clearly 'main' heroine would be one trope ie. Nagisa, Arcueid and there would be another trope for... I don't really remember, that part wasn't as important as the general agreement that how the page works now is wrong. But nothing was ever done with it and the thread has been deleted.

[up][up] I know it is a Suzumiya Haruhi reference. I remember when you changed. You used to have a screenshot of the calendar as an avatar, right? It is kinda lucky it also double as an Umineko reference. You should totally read it, though. It is awesome.

Ok. I will keep that in mind. Just for reference, Umineko should go into Visual Novel, then. But Higurashi would be anime.

Oh, and, again, I edited my previous post. You should stop ninja posting my edits. tongue

Edit: [up] That is confusing. Is duplicates OK? I am pretty sure people don't duplicate for other kind of adaptations (like light Novels adaptations)

Arha, Indexing is obvious, we are talking about example entries on trope pages.

I don't see why you wouldn't do it like that. Taking for example Kanon, I think more people are familiar with the anime than the game. However, it's recognized as one of the best VNs out there. Same for Clannad and FSN.

I know that if I saw Kanon failing to appear on a VN index, I'd add it there.

Edit:Oh, kay. Sorry then, guess I wasn't reading carefully enough. In that case... I'm not sure it really matters for most. There are exceptions such as not listing Haruhi under literature even when it's stuff that hasn't made it into the anime yet, but I think most things aren't like that. I wouldn't list FSN stuff under anime, but Kanon could conceivably fit under either troping category.

Oh, idea. Perhaps one way of separating would be based on the amount adapted? FSN anime skips at least 2/3 of the original game, but Clannad, Kanon and (I think) Da Capo adapt most of the works.

Just edited adding the new folder to Earn Your Happy Ending. Six examples, not bad.

I tried to check every work that seemed a Visual Novel (thus also identified a few V Ns I didn't know) bu I may have missed something, if someone is whiling to double check. Fortunately the examples were quite clear in the distinction between game and anime (Clannad is even listed twice, since it plays differently in the two cases), so I had no much problem. I end up moving Kanon from the anime folder, though, as the way it was phrased it seemed the original troper were talking of the game. Higurashi could have gone either way, but I let in the anime.

Btw, I will ask again the question I made last page. There is a reason Renai Game is outside the alphabetic order in Visual Novel Tropes, Endless Nine?

PS: Also, shouldn't Visual Novel Tropes be an index?

Anyway, I am off to my siesta now. I will edit another page when I wake up.

Edit: Fixed, both.

The folder would look better with a pluralism, as "Visual Novels". I'm not touching it, because I'm in the middle of Ever17, and that page is spoilertastic. evil grin

Edit: Oh, and give edit reasons, referencing Fast Eddie's blessing, or some random troper miht just revert it because "That's not how we do things here".

[up][up] Modified. I was not sure if I should pluralize or not, since the folders seems to be all over the place.

Heh, now I think on it, I didn't read a single example in that page, despite having read them all. tongue I am very good at not spoiling myself, it seem.

Ordinary High-School Student done. Just... 2 two examples. What the hell? I end up pulling To Heart from the anime folder, despite not being sure where this should go. I decided for it because it work page start describing the Visual Novel, not the anime, unlike Shuffle!. I also added Umineko as an example.

I almost started doing Multiple Endings, but there already have the 'Interactive Fiction' so I was not sure of what to do. I would say to just leave that, since 'Interactive Fiction' is like 'Visual Novel, but broader'. But then, there is also listed Higurashi and Umineko, that is not, you know, interactive. Should I split?

Almost off topic, but I can infer you read a lot of V Ns, right, Endless Nine? Can I have some suggestions?smile I want to expand my read list after finishing Umineko (the last patch was just released, yes!)

Actually, I only stumbled upon V Ns a few months ago, finished 4 and started 3 others. Since autumn, I'm glad if I have enough free time for some tropin', or following the running anime series. Anyways, read Ef if you didn't do it yet. That's all.

Splitting Multiple Endings would work also because Interactive Fiction is also famous for it's text only interface, which is, you know, the opposite of Visual.

After that, I don't know what to do next, the longest pages, that would be logical to start with are currently locked and under construction for splitting by media, so we should either continue with smeller pages, or wai a few days until the mess is cleared.

Should we make a recommendations thread or something? Cause it seems like we just tend to pick up new stuff to go through in this forums general thread, or when someone makes a new topic.

EF! Most highly recommended VN from me.

I mean more like either a list of stuff generally agreed to be the best, or something like the anime forum has. Wouldn't be that hard to do either.

Split Multiple Endings. I felt kinda bad, stripping Interactive Fiction from most of it content. But, then, an obvious Visual Novel entry was also in 'adventure game', which just confirmed it needed it own section. (I end up leaving Ace Attorney in adventure)

Also worked on Faceless Protagonist, by changing the 'dating sim' folder to 'Visual Novels'. Also added an example.

[up][up][up][up]Oh, so I am actually into Visual Novels for longer then you. Yet I read a bit less.

By 'Ef' you mean this? The name me is familiar, but I actually never heard much about it. Ok, I will read it next. I've just finished the first half of the new Umineko, so I will give a look on it now. Thanks for the suggestion.

About what to do next, dunno. We should wait before working on the long pages so maybe we could work on short ones. We could use the tags of the Visual Novel Database for idea on which trope edit. Or just try to remember to create a new folder every time you stumble in a VN example while wondering in the site.

We have to decide what to do in the pages split by media. In those I suppose Visual Novel still go on Video Game right? Mostly there is not enough example to give it own page, I think.

[up][up][up] Seems a nice idea, though I don't know how a recommendation thread works to begin with.

PS: [up][up] Oh, two person recommending m already? It is it that good then? Good to know. smile

^ Yes, you're right about what Ef is. What kind of VN are you looking for anyway? I think I've read most of the good English ones apart from Higurashi.

I'll go start a recommendation thread to keep this thread from derailing.

Hum, so Visual Novels should be a separate folder now? I think I can help with that...

Also, are we gonna have a Write A Visual Novel guide? ^^

So, I was kinda sitting around thinking and it occurred to me for the umpteenth time that we don't really seem to have a trope for the little sister character. We have Not Blood Related, but that's actually describing the situation. I'm not sure Brother–Sister Incest really covers it either.

Wouldn't the existence of a little sister character be People Sit On Chairs? Or is there a deeper level here my lack of VN experience isn't seeing?

The little sister character is often a heroine. Nemu in Da Capo, Yume in Da Capo II, whatserface in Canvas2, Akiha in Tsukihime etc. It's a very, very popular heroine type. Common enough to be lampshaded and referenced all the time in genre savvy animes.

They're often Not Blood Siblings but there are some exceptions like Kasugano Sora.
