That must be one of those things you only get if you read the comics, or a fansite.

And here I thought that I'd be getting all the references now that I've watched Dofus. (Although I still haven't had the opportunity to watch the movie. Wonder if that will ever be released stateside).

Edit: I decided to watch Goultard le Barbare. It was incredibly jarring, seeing all that blood. Was the guy he fought a Sacrier? I guess I can see what people meant about them not being able to show all that in the main show.

On to episode 6: The Yugalia shipping is strong in this one. I'm a bit puzzled by the opening cosmic imagery. Does this mean that Oropo's tower is built on top of a black hole? The scale doesn't make sense to me.

Also shocked to discover that Oropo's actually human like under those robes. I always assumed the Xelors were just clockwork underneath or something, though I guess Compte Harebourg wasn't either. It is a bit odd how they conspicuously avoid showing his face though. Does that mean that he's an existing character? If he was new, I can't immagine why his face would be a twist that they want to keep hidden.

It's fortunate that they found a way to deactivate the inhibitor without throwing all their clothes at it this time. I do find it a bit ironic that in season 1, Amalia was the only one who went barefoot, while she now wears shoes and Tristepin is barefoot. I also need to go back and refresh my memory of what happened in the 2nd OVA.

No, Amalia's barefoot too, just wearing leggings. She steps in a landmine after making fun of Pinpin.

I like Ush a lot better here in Season 3 than I did in the OVA. He was basically a glorified cameo and space filler. In the comics he's a psychopath who likes to hire criminals to break into his tower so he can "play" with them by trying to murder them in creative ways. In the OVA, he's a jerkass who's trying to save the world, but he's got very little in personality beyond insulting the heroes and his family members, and his "game" amounts to just fighting until the episode runs out of time. Season 3 combines the two- he can be obnoxious, and a risk-taker, but he's decent so far and you can trust him to watch your kid without him flaying it alive or eating it.

I have restarted playing Dofus, so I guess eventually I'll see how his in-game personality is - he is the final boss in the Ecaflipus dimension AFAIK, but it is a very, very high-level area so I'm not there yet. I've seen Dark Vlad once though.

Yes, Katar is a Sacrier, like Kriss.

I've never played the games, so I never realize how much the show takes from them. Do guys like Black Bump show up as well?

No he is not in Dofus so far (can't speak about the Wakfu MMO).

In Dofus, Coqueline is a NPC, Dark Vlad, Harebourg & Ush are bosses, and Toxine is a companion unit and a boss.

But the game takes place 200 years before Wakfu so there are limits as to who can be met. Fittingly, those who are are half-gods and goddesses. Maybe others will be implemented later - there is no Sadida or Feca dimension out yet, and Ush appears in the Ecaflip one.

Isn't Ush an Ecaflip? Why wouldn't he appear there?

I wonder if we'll ever see the God Ecaflip himself from the Dofus cartoon.

No I just meant that it was a possible explanation as to why Dathura or Bump aren't there yet.

Although I'll be honest, I doubt we'll see a Feca dimension anytime soon. The Feca position in the lore looks a lot like "just a bunch of normal peasants". I think the only slightly significant one the Brotherhood met was Xav the baker. I haven't seen a quirk they can exploit yet. Cras are actually a bit similar, but at least they have recognizable weapons and are the setting's elves, give or take.

Everyone else has that big quirk that makes them easy to characterize (dumb Iops, gambling Ecaflips, sneaky Srams...).

What is the Feca role, anyway? Defense and magic?

Their gameplay revolves around damage prevention - whether it is reducing damage taken, or having temporary immunities - and field control by placing glyphs that cause a variety of effects. In that sense, Black Bump sums them well with his impenetrable armor and his, uh, hard-to-navigate-in room.

But it would be hard to have a recurring Feca, because on average, their powers wouldn't "look" good. Like the Eniripsas, actually, who also fall firmly in "Boring, but Practical".

It really seems like the male Eniripsas show up in the series. In contrast with the females being fairies, they have bat like wings.

Have we seen a male Eniripsa? I'm not sure.

Echo has "male wings" however.

They for some reason get jibbed in representation. And we haven't really seen a female Xelor in the show.

On to the next episode:

I joked about them being lucky that they didn't have to throw their clothes at the inhibitor again in the last episode, but I guess they were saving all that for this episode.

Also, Yugo totally lied about them not having money. Though I suppose he may not have known about Amalia's bag of money.

P.S. It occurred to me to wonder whether Dark Vlad was supposed to represent one of the demigods or not. The Iop spot should logically be empty, since they're reserving it for Elely. But if they spent a whole episode on a non-demigod, that means they will have to rush even more to fit every god into the remaining episodes. I'm also curious what they meant about seeing what Flopping could do. I guess he's also technically the son of the god Iop, though he takes after his mother instead.

Next episode: The accent of the restaurant guy at the beginning was difficult enough that I actually checked to see whether I had accidentally set it to a different language. Anyway, we're clearly supposed to think that Ruel was in the wrong here, but I actually kind of sympathize with him. Throwing away all your money in a Grand Romantic Gesture is not conducive to a stable long term relationship. After all, it's hard to be happy when you're broke.

I'm also impressed that they managed to transfer the flower without anyone noticing.

I forgot to mention about the previous episode, but I was wondering about the music. The first is obviously the Wakfu theme, and I think the second was the Toreador March (of FNAF fame), but I couldn't name the others offhand, although many did sound familiar.

Anyway, on to the next episode:

The moment when Eva got spiked literally made my jaw drop, but it luckily, it seems like she'll be all right.

Echo is an Enipsra? I would have never guessed, since she looks so different from the ones seen previously. It does make sense though.

One thing I've been wondering is how they could possibly get through every level of the tower in the remaining episodes. I guess destroying the tower is one way to solve that problem. It does make the earlier episodes feel pointless in retrospect though.

Also, Amalia knows Oropo. Wait, WHAT? WTF? He's Yugo?

Edit: I just rewatched parts of the episode and realized that Oropo has been calling Adami "brother". I guess that it wasn't supposed to be a twist ending after all. Though it could have easily been explained away by them being part of the "brotherhood", so it is still surprising.

Edit: Another rewatch bonus - when fake!Ruel is transforming into Amalia, one of the dolls can be seen in the background with its hands over its mouth in a shocked expression.

So, I finally finished the season. Overall, I thought it wasn't as good as seasons 1 and 2, but it was still ok. Also, I'm wondering who that white and black woman (presumably a Rogue) was. All the other demigods in the tower were introduced earlier, but she never was, and is just sort of there without explanation. It almost feels like she was part of a cut episode, but the fact that she got noticeably less focus than the other demigods in the finale disproves that.

I was also surprised that they would use a flashback to the Nox OVA, because it has a radically different art style than the show which makes it a bit jarring.

Just finished the first season of this. Dally and Ruel are probably my favorite of the protagonist thus far though that might change when I get into the later seasons. Can't really say I care for the last few episodes though. I feel like Nox was dragged out and the fight against him at Oma should have been the final fight. They'd have had to introduce him earlier and use him more often but I feel like that'd flow better than what we got.

And of course the Sacriers get shafted once again. She got one line of dialog and wasn't even named in the show, while every other demigod got an entire focus episode.

They're the class that explicitly relies on bleeding. That's the reason we don't see much of them in a kid's show.

Well, I finally finished it. kinda wish the last episode didn't spend so much time on baby shenanigans. In the penultimate episode, Oropo's gone one-winged angel, both Brotherhoods are incapacitated, and the bomb's about to go. Then we spend like ten minutes on slapstick.

(Reads how the newest season on Netflix revamps the English cast with known anime VA's)

Huh.

I should probably get around to catching up with this show, if only to get familiar with what happens with everyone until the Netflix season.

...Unless the Netflix season is standalone on its own?

[up] It's definitely not stand-alone. The continuity of it invites you to watch the whole show, or at the very least the three OV As.

I haven't listened to the English dub, but from what I've heard from friends: it's not perfect, but it's miles over what the first two season's dub was.
