what 1.0 areas?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.A developer from Blizzard gave some FFXIV devs a tour of their offices, and the XIV devs returned the favor when the former was visiting Japan. Some people from Blizzard made this cute card to congratulate them on Shadowbringers' launch and success.
They may be competition but they're also developers who share love for the games they work on, man that's wholesome
I knew that there was some 1.0-era geometry still hanging around out of bounds in Gridania - for instance, the 1.0 botanist's guild. I didn't realize that was where the gilbots hang out, though, that's interesting.

So I finally have the money to afford a subscription to XIV. I don't think playing it now would be particularly advisable since both my computer and internet leave much to be desired, but it's nice that soon enough I'm finally going to be able to start this game.
I hope that planned revamp of the early game is finished by then.
I finally saw Siegfried in the Phantom Train Raid. It's a shame I didn't realize it was him until I one-shot him because I was only halfway paying attention.
I didn't get a picture of him, as a result, but here's a video that's close enough.

Been leveling Dancer and the quest line is so fucking dumb I love it.
It's Space Channel 5 played completely straight and without any self awareness.

Holy fuck I didn't even think about it like that
That's amazing
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaIt is your inner darkness you are fighting... so if you have done the Dark Knight quests you know what your inner darkness is and then the whole thing makes an absolutely twisted amount of sense.
How many inner darknesses do you even have?
Well uhhh you would need to complete the Dark Knight quest to 70 to find out about that.
im sorry guy my inner darkness doesn't make me boogie to death

Fray: "THE DANCE SHOWS YOUR TRUE SELF!"

Anyone want to guess which patch fully explains: what exactly our past life was and our connection to the Ascians?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I'd prefer if that was left more or less blank, honestly. (End of Shadowbringers spoilers) They could definitely go with a... kind of established character, though. Ardbert is a very compelling character, and even though his connection to the Warrior of Light is made explicit, it's through vague enough traits - persistence, decency, heroism, and so on - that the writing doesn't say anything too restrictive about your Warrior of Light. And with that in mind, the Warrior of Light's Ascian self doesn't necessarily restrict the Warrior of Light in personality or anything - at least, no more than the general broad strokes of being a (slightly snarky) hero already does.
It's been fun.I mean, fundamentally it's a reincarnation thing. Like Ryne. If anything, they'd probably tell us to let go of who we were and focus on who we will be in the future.
Reincarnation in fiction always confuses me, is it a soul reborn in a new body? Or is it like Ryne where she is a different person from Minfilia but has her power and name? I'm curious as to what our relationship to our old self is, are we the same person Hades's friend, or are we our own person but with their memories and abilities?.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Yeah, that's true. There's no way we'll be getting back to that point, since in-universe it would require another five equally traumatic rejoinings, and out-universe it would involve erasing the player character for a character who would have to be a static NPC. Not to mention that it would invalidate the whole message of Shadowbringers, yeah.
I'm sure we'll eventually find out who "we" were, but yeah, like Clarste said, it'll be as a past life, long gone.
It's been fun.I think reincarnation is always a different person with the same soul, by default. Even in actual religions with reincarnation, you certainly don't keep all your past life's memories, except in extraordinary circumstances. Your soul gets washed, rinsed, and recycled before being sent back out into reality. It's you, but it's also not you.
Ryne and Minfilia seem like the perfect representation of that, imo. She's a totally different person who shares the same soul (including the blessings that soul has), but not the same memories or ideals. The name is irrelevant, that was just given to her by others and she ultimately rejects it.

my head hurts. This is such an existential nightmare. Different person but same soul? Is that even you anymore? At what point is it you reborn or another person living your life? Can it really be you if you don't have your old memories? If it's not you, then what's the point if recycling the soul?

"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaReincarnation doesn't mean you'll be the exact same. The core of the soul remains, but all else is shaped by ones current life.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I'm at that age, where i would suffer existential crisis according to certain studies. FF XIV and gaming helps me get through it, college and life, but now it's followed me here.
I think we will get dialogue options that determine if we define ourselves by our current identity or our old one. I mean we did promise our friend to keep Amaurot in our memories, but we aren't obligated to sacrifice our identity.
Nature vs Nurture then.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I feel like this is a cultural difference. Reincarnation is taken for granted by billions of people as just a normal part of their spirituality. I'm sure something you take for granted would sound just as weird to them.
Edited by Clarste on Oct 16th 2019 at 2:56:40 AM
Huh, is that why? I didn't realize those areas would still be in the game.
It's been fun.
