I was under the impression that white magic was dangerous simply because it was just as powerful as black magic, and that the war of the magi destabilized the planet's aether because both sides repeatedly set off nuke-level magic in every battle.

I guess it doesn't really need to be 1:1 with Black Magic, then... though it helps that the vast majority of healers in Eorzea and elsewhere are Conjurers, and have to ask the spirits for healing instead of using their own aether. Also helps that the Ul'dahn Thaumaturge Guild is, what, five brothers and their hangers-on who care more about appearances than magic?
It's been fun.the Ascians cause chaos while the Warrior of Light and the grand companies bring order. That’s why the Ascians created the Empire in the first place, as the destabilizing force for the world. It’s implied that a world of light would be a still lifeless place. Lahabrea escalated the conflict to the point where the light tipped its hand in us which in turn forced Gaius and then the Ultima.... instead of quietly choking off the grand companies with primal spamming that the companies tried to quietly ignore.
if anything the player will be working with the empire inside out vs the Emperor and Ascians possibly using the Primals like the Warriors Of Darkness did, but with the whole world being depleted of Aether however not sure on that, but for sure the player will be an agent of some faction of the Empire in a civil war. Likely lead by Gaius in his crusade vs the Ascians and potentially taking the throne and disbanding the greater Empire.
Wonder if the Aether depletion is a sign of the Light gaining too much strength, the Empire blames the Primals but the amount of Primals that have been summoned in Eorzea have done nothing there. With the amount the Empire has pointed at Eorzea and the Warrior of Light right now and not one Scion around to help.... I am hard pressed to say balance has even remotely tipped in the Light’s favor though.

Light gives way to stagnation. Chaos is what lets life change. In other words, life cannot exist without chaos because it wouldnt exist at all, as life coming into existence in the first place requires change.
FF has always had this that too much Light spells doom just as much as much as Darkness as far back as III.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I can understand that, but the way XIV has portrayed the forces of chaos, namely the Ascians and the Empire, make it seem like every single moment they exist drives the world closer to destruction. Everything the Ascians do, each of their actions, make things a lot worse for everyone. It's not minor bad stuff happening, it's "The apocalypse will happen tomorrow if we don't stop them". How do you strike a balance with that?
Precisely most everyone else is trying to preserve order. All it takes it getting careless and the entire world is thrown out of whack.
It also helps not all Ascians are plotting the same thing. Lahabrea entire Heavensward scheme was not authorized, and Elidibus himself has taught the kid he saved from the XII Ith how to combat Primals like the Warring Triad so hes willing to give people the tools to fight back if its needed.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I'm pretty much with Resileafs here. The issue isn't whether Lahabrea's plan was sanctioned or not; it's not the Ascians' permission that matters, it's the amount of Darkness in the world, and he resurrected a weapon with the power to nuke Eorzea off the face of the planet. The city-states have issues with the way they handle things (mostly things like Limsa's catastrophic handling of land rights for the goblins and kobolds, which I think is the most highlighted case of the city-states taking an us-or-them, ends justify the means style viewpoint), but there hasn't been any real highlighting of an order-versus-chaos theme so far - and if there has, it's been contrasting the monolithic Garlean Empire against free-spirited Eorzea.
At least Nomura's not attached to XIV, so there's some hope, but we'll see how this turns out.
It's been fun.The big thing is that it seems like Hydaelyn's excessive light is a case of Power Incontinence, shown by the whole mess that happened with The First. Who's to say it's not the same case with Zodiark's darkness? What if neither of them are bad but the Scions and Ascians, Elidibus included, are mucking things up because they're trying to enact the will of entities they can't reliably communicate with or understand the wills of?
It depends on how they go, it'd be refreshing to see a Dark Is Not Evil twist on the cosmic scale that doesn't have to include Light Is Not Good along with it, a lot of writing has a bad habit of thinking they need to go on the same hand when it comes to the universe's nature, instead of personal levels. One of my friends is joking that we'll meet Zodiark and he'll be "Cool divorced crystal dad trying to make up for crystal mom not letting him share custody."

Yeah, I would be okay with that. That would be a refreshing twist on an otherwise pretty played out plot.
It's been fun.Heavensward was pretty even handed overall so I'd like to think they're capable of it.
Paris fanfest tomorrow morning.
Last Minute calls before we learn what all SB 2 is gonna have in it: Soldier as a chainmail tank to give Dragoons loot competition. Dancer as a support-heavy healer that shares "Of scouting" leather gear to give Ninja competition (turns agi stats into healing stats).
I'm going to say the leak was wrong and Ronso will be deconfirmed, with Viera as the only announced playable race.
yeah everything else about the leak i believe, but i heavily doubt we'll get more than viera
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaI don't buy the dancer using Agility for healing gimmick since I think that the devs want to keep gear based on trinity role the same. Otherwise you'll have both healers and DPS getting into spat fests over "needing" scouting gear when they drop.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Anyone on Balmung know who the Roegaydn dude with the white armor and moogle head is that's constantly dancing in Limsa?
I see him every time I go there and I'm starting to wonder if he plays the game any at this point
there's guys like that in pretty much every server. they pretty much only do roulettes and just idle wherever.
try dancing next to him, you may start a dance party :V
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaI seen him since HW. Waste of electricity to me.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.July 2nd for Shadowbringers.

Yeah, that's my preference too. Order versus Chaos, sort of thing. Like, we're told that White Magic is kind of dangerous in the WHM questline and that's why the padjali control it so closely, but it's never really made clear what White Magic's connection to Light is, or even how it really works, aside from vague hints in other classes' class quests (mostly RDM and BLU) that suggest that WHM draws on internal aether the same way BLM does. It makes more sense for it to be like Darkness accepts everything, every flaw and weakness, and doesn't condemn for it, which can be comforting and is what people need in moderation, but not to excess; and Light strives for perfection and to be better, to the point that nothing is good enough in the pure Light. But again, everything's been so vague, and the Ascians have been so consistently and cartoonishly evil, that it's hard to see if there's a real point to be made.
It's been fun.
